A big thanks to Andrew at 4x4 Air Seals in Warrington, who I found recommended on this website. I thought I was in for a BIG bill when the compressor started rattling, the orange suspension light came on and the suspension slowly headed ground-wards. I stripped it down to find the con-rod had snapped because the Torx screw had worked loose (no thread lock on it) and spilled the big-end bearing. Andrew provided a refurbished piston assembly, a used barrel and a dryer/filter kit for a very reasonable price. Now it's running like a dream! While I was at it, I strengthened the inside of the dryer cover with Araldite (a pre-emptive strike) and repaired and Hammerited the heavily corroded bracket. Hopefully my 49k mile compressor will last a while yet!
BTW Does anybody know what the wide, corrugated tube is that discharges into the compressor enclosure from above? I'm intrigued, given the hideous state of the Dinky-toy metal bracket. It was only just salvageable.
