Hi all, managed to get the suspension lifted and new wheels and tyres on the car last week. Looks miles better. Drives awful as expected!

Went to the shop yesterday but the car wouldnt go over 2500 revs, drove fine under the revs, pulled over and car was billowing with smoke. Turned car off, let it rest for a while then back on, only a little smoke on start up but when revved quite a bit of smoke. Have included videos to show..

Had a play this morning and found a hose split coming off the turbo:

Fixed it, went for a drive. Car was driving better than ever, no smoke, better acceleration, thought I'd sussed it but then a huge amount a smoke billowing out of the exhaust and a loud clicking noise.
Had a look straight away at the turbo and was pretty oily, Any idea anyone?? I'm stuck now.

Mark!

Hose on, took the car for a drive, was great for 5mins then started making a horrendous ticking noise sounding like it was coming from underneath the car, smoke billowing out everywhere. Turned the car off, car carried on running, revs got faster and faster, louder and louder, I thought the car was going to blow up. Jumped out, walked away and after about 20 seconds it cut out. Will not start now at all. Absolute pile of rubbish these cars!

Thanks, sounds terminal.
I've not checked. Just parked it up and left it. What would that signify? Is there an easy way to check whether the engine is kaput? It wont turn over now. Are these engines fixable or would it require one off a scrapper?
Sorry for all the questions, not experienced anything like this before. The 300Tdi 'just worked'.

Sounds like it could of been running on the engine oil is there any left if not the signs of the engine being any good isn't great.

That is probably the correct diagnosis.
It can be due to a crack in one of the injector pockets in the head, the engine will run on it's own lubricating oil and can rev to destruction, is the oil level rising?
Good start would be to take off the rocker cover and turn on the ignition, dont start it, but when the fuel pump in the tank pressurized the fuel then you may see diesel oozing from the crack into the head. Check out on here there are people who have had similar.

Hope it is something less serious

It's running but lots of smoke, the lad who looked at it says he thinks the head is cracked and when it heats up the crack opens so new engine needed. Hopefully picking one up this week.

You might want to investigate the costs of buying and fitting a decent head against a complete replacement engine.

Not been on here for a while so I'm jumping in on a few threads!
Having done a rebuild after a runaway, Id recommend finding a decent used engine or even buying a complete D2 from Copart and break it yourself.
My engine rebuild was nearly £1.5K plus a new AMC head a few months later after the repaired one cracked.
I did all the work myself, bores and crank didn't need work, had to replace a piston and all the bearings.
