Was just wondering peoples views/expert opinions on fitting one new tyre? I ask as i just bought 5 x second hand BFG's, 4 are worn to about 5 mm one is brand new (spare). All in excellent condition. just seemed a waste of a nice fresh tyre not to fit but wondered where best to place it.

So far thinking on the rear as I think you would notice any differences more on the front however I think on the front is where you could benefit from the extra grip in ruts or soft stuff.

The diff should compensate for any rotational difference i think as it obviously has to do this more or less constantly with every turn of the steering.

Thoughts?

Keep the new one as a spare, as for the one's at 5mm I wouldn't have thought they were worth the effort of fitting? I suppose if you do the fitting yourself or can get someone to fit them for no money then that's ok

I was advised to change all 4 of mine recently when I was going to do 2 at a time. all done now

If you keep the new as a spare, then when the time comes to replace a pair of tyres, you only have to buy one new one.

I've heard people recommend replacing all four on Freeloaders, but not for other LRs.
