Is there a definate answer to often asked "is the wiring in place for a heated front screen in a mk1 freelander?"

i'd quite like a heated screen after last years winter!
i had a look under the plastic scuttle panel today and couldnt see anything obvious..theres not much room for wires there..are they on the inside?
I did hear the heated seats wiring is usually in place on non equiped freelanders...

Couldn't you simply take a feed from the rear window switch to a relay to then work the front as well?

Have you found a front screen that will fit? How much? Interesting idea.

HSE versions from 2004 on (perhaps earlier) have a heated front screen as standard.
The wiring and terminals are found under the plastic panel after you remove the wiper arms. Nothing on the inside apart from the dash switch.
It's a split system with separate fuses fro the left and right halves, both working off the same switch of course.
Autoglass always have them in stock - I know as I'm on my 3rd one - the buggers keep failing - not so bad if it's the passenger side - but a pest if it's the driver side.
Beware of 2nd hand ones - make sure both sides are working.
I've checked them with a thermos flask of hot water held up to the inside of the screen.
Good luck.
They are a fantastic boon in the winter. Well worth the trouble of getting one.

so has anyone ACTUALLY retro fitted a heated screen into a mk1? i have had a look and cant see any wiring on the passenger side scuttle under the front screen..I know on the disco 2 its not just fit screen and switch..theres a bit moire involved but at least all wiring present. be nice to know it anyones actually gone out and done it?:)

Even if the wiring was not present I would think it would be quite simple to run a power feed via a relay and switch etc.

The SE spec has it as well, mine is great!

What age and spec is your freeby? My 04 SE doesn't have fog lights but when I removed the front bumper a few weeks ago I found the wiring for them sitting on the front crossmember.. So I recon there could be wiring for it.

mines a 2002 serenghetti 3 door. im told the heated seat wiring is there already but cant see anyhting for the heated screen.

the thought of not having to scrape ice on a morning is making me think its going to be a priority! I actually did my back in leaning over a disco 2 front screen last year!

I'm not so sure now, your car is 2 years older than when the facelift came about that brought the heated screen. So I doubt that you have any wires for it in your car.

You could still fit one but you'll need to make up your own wiring etc for it.
