What kind of rig is taking a DV27, it's usually a PL259?
Ahh, I guess it's a hand-held and you are fitting an external antena.
But as Sean said, strip back the outer cover, peel back the copper braiding and double it back over the outer cover. Next, hold the wire to the plug and cut the inner core to the right length (so that the outer and braid will go into the body of the plug) and strip off about ΒΌ inch of the inner insulation. Tin the inner core (or cores.) Then remove the small plastic cover on the back of the plug and tin the small pin, which should have a slot in it. "Screw" the whole cable into the plug body trapping the outer braid which you folded back over the outer cover. Make sure the inner core is not touching the body of the plug and that the little bit you exposed is sitting neatly over the slot in the back of the pin. Solder the inner core to the pin, replace cover and Bob's yer auntie (my uncle Bob was a funny fella.) There is no need to crimp the outer casing to the cable.
If you need a photo I'll rig one up and post it.
