just picked up a set of genuine 300tdi bull bars for the disco....

for fitting them, will i need to shave any of the front bumper away? i know that they need to hook under the bumper and bolt into the frame head at the front -

has anyone got any tips on fitting them as it looks like its gonna be a tricky one to do!

also.... for wiring in spots on the bar - are the sockets next to the headlamps the sockets for auxilary driving lamps?? will it show by testing them with a multimeter on full beam then dip or is there a standard current being passed to them for an un-fitted factory option?????

On mine the plastic bit the no. plate screws onto has been trimmed a bit in the corners, but the rave cd instructions for fitting do not show any cutting. I would just fit it and then see if any trimming is required, should'nt be too big a job as long as you've got a friend to hold it for you...

As for the spot lights, the plugs near the headlamps are for fog lights, I think you need at add a relay under the dash and the fog switch to use these (should only really be used for fogs as they can then be on with side & dip so probably not legal). My spots are wired off the headlamp main beam with a relay and a fused power feed from the battery (only down side to this is that they are always on with main beam, i would prefer to be able to switch them).

Hope that helps, i can post some pics if need be.

Simple solution is to have a three position on/off/on switch.
One of the ons is in the existing series so that they come on with the main beams. Off is obvious, the other on supplies power direct to your relay same as the main beam one only you can now turn them on when you feel like it, off when you feel like it, or leave it to the high beam to trigger it. Not too difficult, just got to run a few extra wires.
