why does it need speed sensor ? sat nav's use the GPS to determine speed !

or is it so you cant watch tv whilst driving along

c'mon kiddo...factory ones use speed sensor input over gps, more accurate and it still works when you're in tunnels lol

Buy a Tomtom. Mine can't make up its mind whether to work or not. Every time I decide to trust it, the damn thing decides to tell me i'm off road. I replaced the GPS aerial bit and it worked for 2 days! Waste of 30 quid!

Odd, in my previous car I used TomTom but actually really like the Becker nav.

Have updated to 2006 maps and it's actually quite accurate, not many unknown roads and the voice prompts are far better than TomTom.

It's also very quick at "locking on" to a GPS signal.

becker sat nav now fitted with the speed sensor wire located.
works great, used it to go down devon and back, just need an up to date disc anyone know where to get one from.

I'm selling a 2006 set of discs that cover all of Europe on eBay at the moment.

£20 posted.

PM me for details.

Have got the full set of western europe 2006 discs if anyone needs copies - guess you'd only want the england disc if you've got a petrol freelander.

Note they are not just map updates but a newer version of the program too so it reinstalls and recalibrates etc - only mention this as don't know if there is any copy protection on the discs so might not be worth risking unless you have your old original disc somewhere in case the installation with copies goes wrong.

glad its all sorted but any chance of posting which of the wires was the speed sensor...might help someone out in the future ;)

Will do Markyzs180,
at work until thursday, i will take a pick of the location and the colour of the wire you have to splice into.

the ones I have are marked 2003-1 western europe, the other 2006-1 western europe though this has 4 discs with it so it must cover the other countries in a lot more detail than the early one.

I don't think they updated the maps for the freelander after 2006 - you may find a becker/navteq one thats newer but you could hit compatiblility issues.

for anybody trying to locate the speed sensor wire on a freelander, here it is. Open fuse box cover under dash, now look at the fuse board, on the right of the fuse board there is 3 connectors plugged into the side of the fuse box, 2 small ones and 1 larger one.
The larger one is located beneath the 2 smaller ones. the wire is located in this larger connector block. At the bottom of this larger block is a white wire with an orange tracer (its the third or fourth wire up from the bottom), this is the speed sensor wire.
