hi
Does anyone know a place in the East Midlands who would fit a snorkel to my td5.
As it involves cutting the wing don't fancy it myself.

There's Nene Overland in Peterborough (and probably a few others) - is that considered 'East Midlands'?

Scared myself s**tless when I did the job drilling huge holes in my precious Disco but looking back it was a doddle. If you have a proper template and a sharp circular bit which is a damn sight cheaper than paying someone else to do the job you'll feel chuffed when you've done it. Don't forget to give the bare edged metal a good dosing of rust proofer and slap on loads of silicone sealer. I was lucky to get a genuine Safari snorkel to fit so job was easy, but don't know about any imitations out there. There do seem to be an awful lot calling themselves Safari so be careful. Must admit that deep water has never attracted me but have driven into an horrendous flood ( that killed about half a dozen cars/ vans and stopped my vehicle in about 40 yds ) in torrentail rain on the A14 one morning coming back from Europe I realised that they can be very useful. Engine never faltered and obviously no water got in the engine. Most useful when travelling in dusty conditions with the intake pointing backward. Kept checking air filter when in Morocco but clean as a whistle compared to other normally aspirated Landies. Good luck.

Where abouts are you?

Its a relatively simple job that any decent mechanic can do.

PS. Do NOT use silicone. Its completely the wrong sealant for this application.

Sorry for saying silicone. Its my catch all phrase for waterproof 'stuff'. Vilguy is dead right. Can't remember what the correct name for the stuff is but it doesn't screw up the MAF sensor like silicone does.
