Hi Folks,

My standard 88' SIII doesn't have a reversing light (or fog light :( )

Does anyone know if it is possible to fit a reverse light switch to the gearbox.. so I can wire up a rear light that comes on when I select reverse gear ??

Many years ago, my second 88' SIII had a reverse light - but I had to manually flick a switch on the dash to operate it

Thanks.

No fog light you say? The army must have had all the optional extras on my 88" series 3, fog light, deluxe bonnet and everything, reverse light would be spiffing though old chap.

Get shot of it & buy a Freelander, they come with reversing & fog lights as standard..................

reverse switch is same as the brake light switch..there should be a hole in your gearbox for it ready to go. Might need tapping though.

At last.. a useful and sensible reply.. thanks.
I will crawl underneath and have a look. Is there likely to be a blanking plug or bolt where the switch should go?

Thanks.

I quite like not having a reversing light. It's a good way of scaring the **** out of drivers behind you. ;)

A worklight on the arse end of your motor with a dash switch is better for actually seeing where you're reversing in the dark anyways.

Even if you cun't find the switch/hole on the gearbox it'd be simple to fit a small bracket with a push switch that was operated by the gear lever when you selected reverse. There's a massive throw forward to select reverse gear on Series boxes so it'd be a piece of **** to do. ;)

Well... whilst I obviously have to agree with Grippa!

I have now bought the switch:

I just need to know where to stick it !! :D

Anyone have a pic of which bit of the gearbox the thing should screw into ??

Thanks

It's up the top at the back..if you take out the centre seat and have a look down the tunnel with a torch you should see it. there was no blanking plug in mine, just a hole.

Is that actually an official switch that's designed for a series? Also, you got a linky to where you got it from?

I walked into a shop and bought it !

Sorry.. it isn't any more interesting than that!

Craddocks list it (Part Num: 575166) as:
BRAKELIGHT SWITCH SERVO VEHICLE. ALSO
OPTIONAL REVERSE LIGHT SWITCH

Like a mindless drone I followed his/her advice and went to Maghull 4x4 and bought it.

Tomorrow I try and fit it and wire up the reverse light I bought at the same time !

OK, I *think* I know where the switch should go... but I would be grateful if anyone can tell me if I am doing wrong before I potentially screw up my transmission.

I can only see one possible place at the back of the box. I have no idea what the special nut with what looks like a slotted head is for. Please tell me if you know I am right or wrong to take a spanner to this.
