When I first got my FL TD4 06 4.5 years ago, I fitted a new JVC radio complete with steering remote control adapter.

I have recently upgraded the radio to a Kenwood with DAB, but I cannot get the steering remote to operate the radio.

I was under the impression that JVC and Kenwood radios had identical connections. Am I wrong and need to buy another remote adapter?

I believe they have different resistive values so aren't easily interchangeable.
How do you find DAB in the car? My wife's last 2 cars have been fitted with DAB radios. I find the signal is much to patchy down here for it to work properly. I hate the way it just stops receiving the station completely, whereas FM just fades in and out.

The steering wheel controls on the FL 1 use a resister ladder for the audio buttons. This means all the buttons use the same two wires and each button has a different resistance. Most aftermarket radios don't accept this raw signal, the main exceptions (that I know of) are a few Blaupunkt and Apline models - these radios can accept the signals as-is from the wheel and need a separate lead run from the appropriate wire on the rotary coupling to the radio. All other radios with the ability to use the steering wheel buttons need an active converter box which monitors the resister ladder and converts the button presses into some type of digital signal which is then sent out over a headphone style plug to the steering wheel socket on the radio. I don't know too much about the signals, but I imagine that Kenwood and JVC use different standards. I would suggest checking InCarTec or a similar source to see if an adapter is available for your new radio.

I have been looking around since posting and it does look like I need another adapter.
Now to work out which one is needed.

As for Dab, I use a powered windscreen aerial and it is fine for most stations in my area but the new mux recently launched is patchy in my area (East Kent).
With digital transmissions you either get it perfectly or you don't get it at all. Same with satellite transmissions. One of my hobbies.

I think DAB is a con and very limited in coverage:mad:. I prefer the use in my car the cat whisker and chrystal set:confused::confused: only issue the constant beeping which I ignore:cool::cool::cool: mostly.

I find that down this way Dab is fine for the home radio. However from my own experience, in 2 completely different cars, it's pointless when mobile.
