That’s what you call over packed.. lol
Was a hell of a trip! Apart from the very sore Arse! I loved it..
so many stories to tell from that one!
From Land mines in the Western Sahara, to second hand teeth you can buy in most of these countries ( have a pic, but it says the file is too big) ??
Could you imagine trying on someone else’s teeth! Would be worse than a cheap suit . Lol

looks like the only thing missing is the kitchen sink, lol

wow, what a trip and think that’s half the fun seeing different cultures and adore going round markets in different countries , might give the teeth a miss though, lol

good job it wasn’t in Egypt as they may have been removed from a few local mummies, lol

kids have all grown up and just me and the dogs so got to get round taking a trip like that one day

I totally agree, groups are great, especially if everyone gets on. And like you said, always help at hand.
I’m hoping to go further afield next year, would really like to do overland India.. the problem is getting there, Pakistan? Iran??
There’s no good route at the minute. Mind you that could all change by then.
Have you done any overland? Is this your first disco, or first Land Rover?

indeed ref a group , also think it’s nice sharing the experience with others , taking pics along the way ,also sharing the driving and generally having a good laugh , also trying the different food, well if u can identify it that is, lol

sounds fantastic , wonder if u can somehow miss out the bad areas unless overland do a suitable safe routes etc , but sometimes with companies , i would always worry there would never be any lee way if the group etc wished to stop off somewhere , or just wanted a days rest etc,

never done any overland , had landies for 25 years plus , first disco and bought it as a project, well might as well go for it, lol was going to get a D2 but this D3 came up so went for that instead

You should do it, I like you love the cultures, smells ( most of them anyway) the whole Experience.
I passed on the teeth! Proud to say, I still have all my own teeth and hair.. lol
Same here really but without the dog! Lol
I travel so much, I think it would be cruel to Keep a dog. I love animals. Just haven’t got any right now.
There’s some pretty good places to visit in Spain. And we have the weather. ( like you said) can get a bit hot, especially August!!
I’m an ex teacher of technology, my main subject was motor vehicle, always loved playing with Land Rovers. I have Matilda for traveling, and another for everyday use..
Matilda only has 2 seats now..
I don’t give all my vehicles names by the way.. lol

That is one of the problems with groups, you are largely dictated to by the rest of the group, or the organiser. All said most people don’t mind, as long as they know what they are doing in advance. Some of my best times have been leading groups around Morrocco. In the later years I escorted camper vans, that was fun. Had all the laughs, chats etc, without the hassles. 4x4 are fun, but play hard and love off-road..
all good until they break something! Then it becomes a big problem. Campers are fun people, but don’t tend to go off road! No breakages.. less hassle.. lol
But truth known, I enjoy working with them all..

Lol

lol, name of my landy changes day to day when it decides i’m not going to be able to undo a bolt easily , got the upcoming pleasure of replacing my rear wishbones and got to finish off fitting new front air struts , but if something is a nightmare just walk away and have a cuppa and come back to it later , don’t get wound up

one day will defentely do a road trip, parents would look after my dogs anyway so no issues there, but just so nice having them for company , widowed 5 x years ago , but does get abit of a one way conversation with the dogs ,

indeed understand where ur coming from if u travel a lot , think it’s also great that the name land rover is such a well renowned name worldwide

when i went to spain i got burnt in the first few days , went in the pool without a T shirt on, ouch that hurt for days

did u teach the tech in the uk , i went to south east tech in leiwsham and goldsmith uni but that was for plumbing heating etc

Omg, another coincidence, I am also widowed of 5 years this year.
My husband passed with cancer..
I taught at a Axton chase secondary school and north west Kent college of technology in the uk. I nearly went to goldsmiths..
Sounds like you are doing quite a bit of work to yours.
Are you still working as a plumber?

i’m so sorry to hear that , cancer as well , so understand how brutal and how heart breaking it is

haven’t heard of that college and indeed going from one end of the landy to the other, lol

had to stop work due to serious back injury so the landy keeps me busy and just potter along with it , just takes longer to complete work

pic of my back

nothing like a bit of scaffolding , lol , good and bad days , feel like the tin man in the winter time with the damp and is indeed painful but refuse to let it beat me , onwards and upwards as they say and indeed the landy keeps my old grey matter ticking over , lol

oh well as you’ve nearly finished urs and if u get bored and haven’t got anything to do ;):p:D:D, snigger

kettles on,

hides behind sofa in gear of flying object ;);)

Lol...
How did you do your back?
Would driving long distances be painful or at all possible?
You should move somewhere warmer.. uk is very cold and damp.. ;)

lifted a big cast iron boiler , twisted and smashed 5 x discs

ur not wrong there , would move to spain in a heartbeat , but not working it limits the options

funny enough landy is so comfortable and i just have a stretch around 100-150 miles , along with of course letting the dogs out for a quick loo break , also found it a lot better driving an auto and not worrying about the clutch pedal

One of mine is an auto, the other manual.
I love the auto on long runs, but love the control and engine breaking of the manual.
I guess they both have advantages and disadvantages. But totally get where you are coming from, re your back.

Just wondering - really having seen that picture of the heat exchanger and the similarity it has to various oil/water heat exchangers - rather than running the system off the hot water, use it off the oil circuit.

Coolant circuit will generally run at around 100 degrees, whereas the oil temperature - unless you have an oil cooler - will run 100-120 degrees. Moreover, your water heater could also function as an auxillary oil cooler and as such that the heat exchanger serves two purposes: nice warm water for the evening shower, and some capacity to cool your engine oil during the drive... Plus it should comfortably heat the water over 60 degrees to kill off any legionnaire's that tends to like warm water stores... :D

Sounds like this could work? Not sure where and what room is available to instal the heat exchanger near and in to the oil system?
This would only assist with oil cooling if the system was circulating the water through the heat exchanger and in to a holding tank. As the water passing through exchanger with engine turned off, would have no effect on oil cooling ( my system at the moment)
Only other thing I could think of to consider is extra work for the oil pump? ( probably not a problem) ?

Yes, absolutely right: it would generally only help when there is circulating water. It might be helpful if you were in challenging terrain and needed some extra oil cooling (and the water was cool!) - so not quite ideal as an oil cooler, but it is making good use of waste heat :)

With the engine off, and with a mechanical oil pump, you'd get no oil cooling from this arrangement.

Yes, a little extra work for the oil pump, but it is not unusual for engine oil coolers to be fitted and these are generally trouble free. :)

Probably not a huge amount to choose from regarding oil versus water, but just a thought! :)

Hi I was just reading your great thread .
Have you considered the webasto option often found under bonnets of rover 75's and used in narrow boats small use little fuel an but out an amazing amount of hot water and its a complete stand alone unit
