2003 Defender 90 TD5.

Is any of the wiring in the vehicle already? Or do they have a different wiring loom if you specify heated screen from new.

You can buy the wiring with switch for £100 but on some vehicles a lot of the basic wiring for options is in place.
 
Don't think so, it's quite a heavy cable needed for heated screen. Switch and cable aren't too expensive it's the relay that seems to cost the money.
 
£100 HOW MUCH
You just need a relay, a switch, a fuse & some wire.
Fitted one in mine which is from 1990, very easy.
 
OK l'll get the screen fitted then wire it up myself.
Thing is, l want to fit the genuine Land Rover heated screen switch and that might be a bit more work.
 
Fitted an aftermarket screen and wiring kit in my 1998 300Tdi. Kit contained everything needed to install, including a screen. Cost about £300.00 if i remember. Best £300.00 i've spent on it.
 
I have a heated screen in my 200tdi. I wanted to have the timer relay too ! Bought one off ebay about £10 but could not get the screen to work.
Took it to an auto electrician who said the timer relay was burnt out so he wired it to a lighted switch and I just switch it off when its clear !
 
you can have it with a carling or land rover switch. I bought the kit with the land rover switch but its a later style switch proberbly puma or td5. If you're having some fit the screen shop around as the prices can vary a lot.
 
OK thanks for the information, l will order that kit from Paddocks.

l've asked my local LR specialist to quote for fitting the screen, l'll see what they come back with. Then l'll do the electrical part myself.
 
Best mod you'll ever do. I used the 30amp supply for the air con that my 2000 TD5 hasn't got fitted. You can also hunt about on ebay for the RR control relay (PRC6796), so it runs it automatically for approx ten mins then turns it off.
 
Think mine was £200+vat fitted, but it's the later type (like the ford ones) with the very fine wires in. Not the one with just a strip at the bottom.
 
I often wonder what it would be like to live with one of these motors as I reach for my heated window switch just near my heated seat switch on my hevac control as I set the cabin temp to 26 :p:p:D:D:D:D but only for a split second then I stop wondering...........
 
It depends on how it is used.
The missus drives hers to work so in winter she has to deal with the frozen/steamed up windows and poor initial heat output etc.
It's just warming up and clearing the windows as she arrives at work!
Where l drive my 110 all day between customers jobs, so once it's warmed up it's OK for the day even if left for an hour or more while l am on a job.
I think the heated screen will be great in her 90, not needed so much in my 110.

I have a 7k drive to and from work and spent most of that with my head out the window.
