Hi Cap Crap

I've just spent a small fortune on my newly acquired Hi Cap, and just drove it back to Surrey, from Dorset where it was worked on. Among the issues that were addressed was the terrible steering - it had enormous play in it. It's much better now (still not brilliant), but boy does it fishtail at speed! It's ok until it strays, but then when I try to correct it, that's when I wish I had a spare pair of pants in my manbag.

Any ideas? It's just had new rear shocks and all new bushes. Its also now got part worn Maxxis Mudders. Could it be the knobbly tread pattern causing it? I have just read a similar thread elsewhere, with this as a suggestion, but there was no outcome to the thread!
 
No, but will check them tomorrow. It was dark by the time I got home and I needed a brew to settle my nerves.

What sort of pressure should I run? I don't often carry a heavy load.
 
Not sure i run mine at 32psi, thats what the garage told me.
You will be surprised at what dieefernece it make with correct pressures.
 
Also noticed using it today, the rear tub (high cap don't forget) seems quite "not attached properly". I'm new to all this and hadnt used the truck much before it went in for repairs, but I don't remember it feeling like that. I mean when you go over a speed bump its ok up front, but you really know about it when the rear wheels go over it.
 
Ok, so it looks like I am checking the tyre pressures, and also replacing the rear shocks as the ones I supplied weren't right for the hi cap, yet he still fitted them! Apparently the hi cap tak different rear shocks, is that right? Would anyone happen to have the part numbers for them as I can't find them on google...

Not fitted the new shocks yet, but the tyre pressures were certainly down. One rear was at 36 and the other 23. Having sorted that the ride has improved, but its still a bit hairy on the motorway. A quick easy fix will be to change the tyres and get rid of the Maaxis', so will try this before I go any further.

tension all bush bolts and tie rods,tighten worm drive in power box and fit fresh steering damper,
check swivel pins for wear.....

......then remember its only designed to do 60mph as after that its considered up to you...:D

I run my 110 with 35 in the front and 45 in the rear, with BFG AT tyres, must have read that on here somewhere:confused:
 
Evening gents...

It was the tyres! Clearly not meant for speed on a 110. I now have a set of All Terrain BFG and its made for a much nicer ride.

So if anyone's after a set of 5 (1 brand new) Maxxis Mudders on black steel rims, please let me know. Collection from East Sussex/Kent borders.
