Hi,
My first time on this forum and I don;t even know if I am positing in right place, however I have a 2008 Freelander and we love it, however we have a problem with our windscreen wipers which my local mechanic has not seen before and I must say in over 40 years of driving neither have I the wiper problem is as follows,

When the car has been standing the wipers only last for a few minutes, same again if parked overnight i.e. three minutes max. Because they work like this it doesn't lead me to believe the motor or fuse needs replacing and there does not seem to be a problem with the relay.

Anybody have any ideas what this problem might be please?

Hi Denyse,

Welcome to the forum, not quite the right place, lets see if @bluebeasty can move it over to the freelander section and hope one of the bods there can help.

Cheers

Don't know nowt about freelanders but my uneducated guess is that maybe something is getting too hot and failing, when cool it works again.
If no one else comes up with something better I would change the relay , that's something I imagine anyone could do and won't cost a lot.

Buy a can of freezer spray (for freezing pipes when plumbing etc ) Spray the relay and/or motor when the wipers have stopped working and see if they start again.

If you leave them switched on - do they come back on after a while?

If you switch them off and then back on immediately they stop working do they then work again for another 3 minutes?

Is the behaviour the same at all (wiper) speeds?

Is it consistently the same 3 minutes?

You mention about the car standing and overnight. What happens if you are on a journey and turn the wipers on?

If it's rained, did the doors fall orft?
If so, I would ask the Hippypottymouth (@Hippo) if he can help, as he is all things to all freeloaders and Gaylanderers!
By the way, welcome to the asylum, where questions you thought could not be answered are ... but not necessarily in that order! :D:D

Take no notice of these trattor people they are only jealous ,as our doors do not fall off and we do not have to do welding every weekend .
