Had my p38 off road for first time tonight excellent fun and got to top of steep 1500 foot hills!! on road tyres!!!

But now dash is saying gearbox overheating refer to hand book?
Thing is i don't have a handbook can anyone shed any light?

thanks

no was with a couple of mates with good experience he enjoyed the comfort as he has a 1955 88", is there anything i can do to prevent over heating?

not sure about the gearbox overheat bit mate. Mine very occasionally says this, for a second and then goes off. Had a heat gun detector on it and everything is good, so am thinking dodgy sensor or something!?

I got caught in some flooding a few years ago with my old Classic Vogue Auto and the overheat lamp stayed on-found the water had knackered the sensor, replaced it and all was well.

What engine is it???

The diesel has a separate transmission cooler located behind the grill where the n/s fog light should be. It may be that this has been filled with mud etc and not working propery, or someones fitted fog lights and stopped the airflow to it.

Failing that, when was the last time you checked teh fluid level, low fluid can make the box will run hotter.

4.6 petrol. I feel dumb asking but where is dip stick for the box?

Ok now we narrowed down the engine, what model yr. Pre 2000MY cars have a dipstick located at the back of the engine right hand bank as viewed from the front. 2000MY onwards removed the dipstick and rely on the fill level plug, i.e you put it in until it ****es out all over the floor  .

There is a temp sensor fitted to the lines which feed the gearbox oil cooler (seperate rad by main rad on 4.6). Follow the lines back and check connector for crud or damage.
