Hi, about to go and look at some 93 - 98 2.5 TD Discos and would appreciate hints & tips etc on what to look for regarding rust /rot and common mechanical problems.

Cheers,

Pete

Put it this way the landrover diesel engine is terrible, nissan, isuzu and toyota produce far better engines in their 4X4's however the v8 is one of the best engines ever made so i would go for a v8 disco.

If fitted with sunroofs check they dont leak.

Look under the carpet in the back to make sure the boot floorplan is not rusted through.

A v8 engine should have the camshaft replaced between 70 and 80K check this has been done.

Gearbox & diff oils are meant to be changed every 24 000 miles.

Obviously check the chassis for rust especially the wheel arches.

If you can buy one with a full checkable service history then do it.

Test drive and look for vague steering, vibration and make sure it brakes in a straight line. If an automatic make sure it changes gear smoothly and does not slurrrrrrrr.
