Firstly I'm Ainsley, 26 and from Nottingham
Bought myself a RR td6 vogue today and it's my first Land Rover/Range Rover.

There is a bad steering wheel wobble when exceeding 60mph, any advice on this? Had the wheels balanced and no change.

It has a few niggly bits that I would like to sort out too.

1) central locking, only my rear drivers door works on this so how do I get all doors working? Cheers

2) passenger wing mirror doesn't fold in with the power fold, could do with getting a new one as the plastics tatty as, where's best to purchase?

3) few broken bits needed, passenger cup holder, drivers front indicator case broke, the catch for passenger sun visor, previous person put chrome external handles and pillar trim, what's best way to remove and remove any sticky crap or best way to replace with black.
Lastly need a second key as only have 1 and looks like someone got hungry, any recommendations?

Check your steering linkage probably got a ball joint that's gone or the tracking is out

Unless you have money to burn, live with one key. It will cost close to £300 to buy and code a new one.
Search the bay of e for bits to replace those broken.

Wobbles,shimys and shakes are most likely doen to worn suspension bushes.

The L322 uses a lower wishbone and control arm assembly arrangement that when they wear (with regularity) it causes wobbles, knocking and groaning.

As for the key, yes they are expensive.

Ebay is your friend for 'cheap' parts or trim as dealer prices are eye-watering - although some independent specialists can be reasonably priced.....if it is running gear, brakes, steering related - stick with with new or warranted reconditioned parts as ebay 'cheapies' could be cheap for a reason!

I got a cheap key blank for my l322 of the fleabay, cost about a fiver. cost about the same to get it cut by a local indie key cutter, and been quoted about thirty quid to get the immobiliser slug recoded. ( can do the central locking reset as on youtube vids.)

As far as I'm concerned if the stealers, presented with the original key, cannot guarantee being able to code it back to the vehicle, I'd take with a pinch of salt, until proven otherwise, some guy offering to do it for £30, to a key bought from ebay.

On this one I would love for it not to be a con. So please come back and tell us if it works or not. If it works also let us know who recoded it.

On Saturday I'll take it to get wheels aligned see if that helps, if not onto looking at bushes , rods etc.
I've got a key bloke who has done several audis for me, I'm going to see if he can do this for me, if so I shall let folk know as he travels up and down the country doing this on the VAG scene. Until the. I may get a blank and cut just as a spare to get in on worst case scenario make life easier onto recovery truck etc rather than smashed windows.

With so many problems how come you did. To see them before you paid for it?

Take it back and tell the seller to sort it.

Because you can't buy a vehicle with known faults and then take it back and say fix them...
I've always bought vehicles cheaper with a few problems and then had them sorted/fixed.

I don't know about others but,if I buy private I don't buy with 'known faults',who knows what the 'knowns' are hiding If I buy a vehicle from a trade seller(which is what I do now,my days of crawling over, under and through a vehicle are well over ) I ensure I have a warranty and any known issues fixed before it leaves the forecourt. I wouldn't buy a vehicle cheaper just because they've said it has a' few 'faults' I got the chance of a 'no known faults',RR at a great price from JLR dealer when the Golden Girl was having major issues,but no warranty was offered,so the Golden Girl remains .I've learned from experience that a little fault can be a BIG repair. Still each to their own and one can only learn from one's own experiences.

Hi There Ainsley, I too bought my first RR SC last October from an independent car dealer who was offering a "lower than most" price for a car with a "few faults". Like you I believe that if someone else put it together then I'm confident I can have a go at fixing it, to a point. My car was in such good condition body, interior & underneath, that I couldn't walk away having seen some very dodgy examples.

The reality is that, as expected there have been over a grand's worth of parts, some new and some second hand, fitted to what we now call "Black Beauty" or "The Beast" depending on if she will start or not. The winter was a nightmare, too much water and condensation to mess with the electrics but we worked through them all and now she runs like a race horse.

I have found a very competent independent 4x4 specialist who has done a few jobs for me including a new key, supplied next day and coded in ten minutes for £125. I identified a rattle in the steering that was diagnosed as track rod ends, once done for the price quoted the steering wobble disappeared completely and the ride is superb. No balancing required. My advice, get friendly with a good local independent for the jobs that need an expert, the rest is nuts and bolts plus hours and hours of fiddling with fuses and earth points as they are often the issue.

The guys & girls on Landy Zone have been great and I find myself getting so "in deep" with my RR that I can see me driving it for a very long time, if I ever get the keys off Mrs Tricky. Good luck.

Just wondering, did you ever get the key done?
