Prior to buying my first 110 I've just got a couple of queries that I hope you could help me out with.

I'm concious that this is a big hunk of metal that I'm going to be buying and one which I'm hoping to keep for quite some time so I'd like to make sure its a good one. What are the main things that I need to be looking out for? I know that I need to try and make sure that it hasn't been driven hard off road but what are the tell tale signs of this?

I had a test drive the other day and there was a fair bit of smoke coming out the exhaust when I gave it some welly up a hill. The engine was cold and once it had warmed up a bit there was no visible smoke, is this normal?

Like Tomo1971 in another post, I am tall (6' 4") so I would like a little bit of extra leg room. One of the members on the forum suggested some extended seat rails - where could I get these from? Another solution would be a slightly smaller steering wheel - are these available and does anyone have eany experience of doing this?

Thanks in advance for your help

What are you intending to use it for?

Check for underside damage (bent steps, grazed diff casings etc), Mud embedded in hard to reach areas of the chassis is also a good sign of being ofroaded as is a transfer box lever that moves easily.

What colour was the smoke, Are you sure it wasn't condensation?

I have a smaller steering wheel fitted. I think it's 14". It makes quite a bit of difference to elbow room and upper leg room.

Mudstuff do the extended seat rails for the larger person.;)

Main use will be commuting to work every day (6 miles) then at the weekend filling it up with wife, kids, dog, tents and bikes and heading for the hills.

Smoke was light grey, could have been condensation but not sure. Dealer said that it had been sat for a couple of days - would that have caused it?

I'll give Mudstuff the once over - thanks for the info.

Wiltshire Landyman - wish I knew someone! If there's anyone who could do this for me I would be prepared to pay them - the AA wanted nearly £300 and needed 5 days notice!!

If you add your location in your profile people will know who where you live and you may get an offer of help.;)

Genius, thanks Ratty!

Profile updated - I live in North Manchester. Any help would be gratefully received

ill do it for £200 :D

Im based in north wales, if you are willing to pay the fuel i could probably come down your way with you!

Or you may find one up here, ill happily come look at it with you.

MHM - Your advice is priceless

I think I'm getting the hang of this forum already!

Boydy - thanks for the offer (not the £200 one  ). Most of the 110's I've looked at seem to be South Manchester/Cheshire way so I'll give you a shout if there's something more your way - it certainly gives me another place to look.

I'll come with you Ped for nowt, I'm no mechanic but I've driven a few landys and know what's right and whats not, plus being a hobbit I can virtually walk underneath to check the underside.PM me and let me know.

Thanks Iceman, thats very generous. There's one in Glossop i'm interested in but it will be next weekend before I can get over again (if its still for sale) will let you know.

Gobsmacked by the response on this forum, everybody is so helpful

Its cause were all nice on here. ;) :p :D

Welcome to LandyZone and good luck with your new purchase.

Not sure what your budget is, but i'm planning on buying a 90 fairly soon - within the month, depending on money - there is a seller on eBay I have been looking at, he sells loads of 90s & 110s and from the pictures (yeah, I know judging book by its cover) they seem in decent order. HERE is his eBay shop, user id is yanthelandyman.

Once i'm ready, i'll be giving him the once over. Err, as it were :)

It's starting to look like the Bury/Bolton area is Landy Land!

My budget is around the 10 to 11K mark so I'll give him a bell and see what else he has.

Thanks

if you've got 10/11k to spend - dont spend it all on the vehicle.

i'd keep at least a quarter of it in your pocket because as soon as you get it home you'll be wanting to buy things for it

dont do what some people have done on here which is to spend everything on the vehicle and then not be able to keep it serviced and on the road due to lack of money

Sean, I've been quoted about £350 for a service - is that reasonable.

As I'm not initially going to be using it seriouslyoff road I was looking at getting something fairly basic then adding bits on as the years go by. Its main use is going to be transporting people rather than driving into the wilds. What sort of purchases were you refering to?
