Ran out of fuel...

I know I have rubbish fuel economy but I blame the sender

only had the truck a month - last refill it went into the orange and I got a warning light

was sat way above empty - no light but everything stopped - fortunately I had 1/2 gallon in the back - luckily it fired up on the last try (I also checked all the fuses and lines.

so -

1 - are defender tanks double lined? As it sounded very hollow. (Empty )
2 - With the right tool is it just a 1/4 turn to remove and refit the sender - any gotchas in there ?

at least Kevin is breaking me in gently to the fun of defenderdom

Dont let it run into the orange. 9 years of landy ownership and never have :p

Id be worth purging the fuel system. Google will show you how, takes a couple minutes

Don’t bother with the fuel gauge, reset the trip meter every time you brim the tank and use the mileage as your fuel gauge. I do this and and refill at 300miles, I can get about 400mile before the engine dies (200tdi 110). Much better than relying on a random needle.
Although replacing the sender should be very straight forward. But I only go up to end of tdi era. So if it is later would need someone else to advise.

I’m in a 3.9 v8 ...

Ok so maybe half my mileage rate, and if in a 90 maybe a quarter as they have a thimble sized tank. But either way, work out what mileage you get out of a tank and then use 3/4 of it as the limit to refill.
You are trying to make me feel better - it’s working

I get 110 miles out of the tank. Problem is it’s been in garage for a troublesome hose replacement- I think they’d run it up to temp a few times (or just nicked 2 gallons)

anyway - was a fun introduction for my son to Defender motoring
