I must admit I really like it. And it doesn't deserve the bad press it gets. Mine has been really reliable. Yeah I know I've done a fair bit but most was what I wanted to do rather than what it needed and I must admit it ain't that rusty although I think the chassis could still do with a good coating in something. Will chat to my local LR info down here in deepest darkest Dorset (Steve at kerbside) and see what he recommends
 
So off to pick up the re-trimmed headliner and pillars tomorrow mornings. Will post some before and after pictures.

In with the new. It's grey rather than oatmeal so I need some vinyl paint for the sun visors and other sundries which hold the head liner up but got that covered as Jason showed me which one I need and he had an example he's done for a customer. I've chosen grey as eventually I'll swap the interior for black leather and I think it will compliment it better. I also found the water leak in the front screen. So I'll be back into the insurance company to come and get them to do it for a 3rd time and actually use the correct amount of sealer rather than being tight with it. If anyone wants Jason's details he does all headliners for Range Rover and defender as well I think. Mine was £190 + £80 for the a,b,c and d pillars in the same material as the headliner. Give me a shout.
 
Well another big service again to try and clean the crap out of the gearbox, diffs etc plus sorting the transfer box motor and the broken stud in the turbo outlet.
 
Like the headliner looks great and a good price. Shame not local to me.
As for the "****ty wheels and ****ty springs" each to their own If you change your mind you just get the spanners out and change them back
BTW mine also has "****ty springs " and things I like that others don't

The yanks were pretty keen on modding p38s worth a look on some of their forums , Ashcroft do a bearing box mod for the r380 . It works well behind the 3ltr(remapped)TDI BMW in my110

think better bang for buck staying with 5 , six speed would probably end up costing more than the vehicle , and an M51 even with chip would not really benefit that much from an extra gear.
 
You have a nice looking truck there, hard work but well worth it.
I'm happy with the 30mm wheel spacers I fitted last year.. feels tighter on corners and looks good.
Personally Im not a fan of sticky backed chrome coloured plastic parts but I do have light protectors incase I have to drive through a herd of elephants or polar bears or a jungle... in Somerset.

I hear you on the sticky back parts. There are parts I have seen I'd like. Got a real want for the piano black interior trim.
 
Same stuff I use on all my cars. Autoglym bumper and trim gel. It's restores the blackness totally and makes it bead lovely when wet. Was introduced to it by a friend from the bmw forum a couple of years ago and now I wouldn't use anything else. It also rejuvenates rubberised trim like you wouldn't believe. I've got a rear spoiler on my e12 M that I thought was scrap but this has brought it back to like new now. Every couple of months I go over a car with it. Only needs it every so often. It's not an every wash requirement
 
So a bit more progress although this time not by me. Truck needed it's MOT. So left it with Steve at kerbside to sort and fix while I was away on holiday. He diagnosed the transfer box ecu as the problem for the lack of hi low so that's sorted and he also swapped the ac pump as I have no way of getting the gas out. So both now working. I also left him to extract the stud from the back of the turbo as I've just not had time to get the exhaust manifold off. I had a go while in situ but was a no go so that is now done as as well.

I also picked up a set of used BF Goodrich AT's for £180 They are correct size for factory fitment but Steve said they may look a little tiddly as they are only 235 70 16's. What do you guys think?

So tyres fitted today. Drives so much better on 235's compared to 255's it's like a new truck. Tramlining is gone and the steering seems lighter and more direct.

So to update this month. Its been another busy month for "Paddy" (the mrs gave him a name :rolleyes:)
Mainly niggly bits but one big thing.

  • Cubby box damper changed.
  • New to me tailgate fitted after detailing out the scratches.
  • gearbox oil cooler bracket fitted
  • Dip stick o-ring ( One less leak!!!!)
  • Fully rebuilt the rear parcel shelf with a new plastic bits.
Parts still on the shelf in the workshop.
  • New front bump stops
  • water transfer pipe o-ring
  • water pump o-ring
  • rear lights still part modified
  • radiator mounting grommet

It's the little bits that make the difference isn't it. Turns a car most people think is fine into one that you can be proud of when the details are right.
