The video I posted above featured a FL1 with the older General Grabber AT2 tires. They were good oft road but orrible on road. The FL1 suspension can't take out the rumble of those tires due to the tread pattern being aggressive. Hence the noise and vibration enters the cabin. That's what made the on road driving orrible. As soon as they were gone all returned to normal. From that date onwards I ran Pirelli Scorpian STR. A road based tire with enough grip to go oft road. The bigger rustier LR's can ride with orrible tires like the AT2 as their suspension can take out the vibration.

Regards mods... historically if yer went above 40mm yer had to make some small cuts. The most peeps would go to was 50mm. Some did and some didn't need caster correction. The kit basically puts blocks of metal above the springs to lift the body. To be frank yer can do a similar lift by just fitting biggerer tires. If yer have a look through the freelander section for idea's you'll be able to see what others have done. If it were me I wouldn't do anything until you have driven it for a bit and made sure it's all in working order before spending money on it.

@Hippo Thanks for the advice... If I'm honest I've never really properly driven off-road so this is an all new start of experience for me. I've seen some kits of the 40mm variety say no modification required but everything ive read has various mods e.g. cutting things o_O

@DevonGuy Any recommendation to tyres? There is a part of the shoot where my uncle seems to enjoy getting his Discovery 1 stuck and been pulled out a few times by the gamekeepers Navara. I'd love to be able to go to the same slippy bit and show him how to 'Simply Drive Through' :D

As for the flak I'm pretty thick skinned and work in an RAF Hangar so used to comments being thrown around haha

@Colthebrummie I've got the FL1 for nothing mate but I've always wanted a Defender. I was hoping to try and get a happy medium in all honesty... Capable off-road when shooting or when fancy it as live in the country but also something I can load up and travel in when we go camping

I had BFG AT's on mine and they were good off road but noisy on, just as Hippo says about GG AT2's. There's a wealth of halfway-houses out there - I think my bro runs Yokohamas - but now I use a stock Jinyu winter tyre which is much quieter on road, brilliant on snow and adequate elsewhere. The standard Freelander is a very comfortable medium-sized estate car which re-wrote the rulebook for such vehicles when HDC was introduced. As others have said, give the car a chance for a few months and then see if you really want to risk spoiling it.

The more I’m looking at FL1 videos the more I’m getting a bug to sell my daily and get something else to have a proper project then have a daily aswell

Happy Days :D

This might sound really stupid but does an FL1 have a diff lock? Been in my parents but never noticed anything or is there like a secret hidden button? o_O
