Hi everyone... I’ve just acquired my first Land Rover in the shape of a Freelander 1. It was my parents but have since bought another car and gifted it me... I’d like to fit a lift kit and use it as just a shooting vehicle as my current daily really isn’t suited to county lanes or anything resembling a shallow pothole.

Any tips of advice about anything would be massively appreciated... Cheers
 
Thanks I’m pretty thick skinned so like water off a ducks back haha... It’s more family I’m assuming since it’s a 5 door (open the door to more torment )

I’d like to lift the truck to give the dog a lift to and from shooting
 
They are reliable in standard form, lifts usually mean big wheels, but not sure the vcu is made for that? Just lift shouldn’t hurt.
Adapting things as you go is half the fun with Landys so go slow and see what suits best for your use.

No pictures yet sorry... Hoping to get it at the weekend as I’m over and hour from parents house and stuck at work. As soon as I do I’ll post some up... Hoping to use it as a project vehicle aswell to get me in trouble with the other half
 
‘Off-road Freelander’ Is the key.

Plenty got FLs on here, we all have our favourite models and take the mik of the others - you just say something like

“I wanted a *insert their model* but bought a FL as I don’t want a recovery truck as my tool box :)

Not keen on lifts meself. Its not something eye would do but many have over the years. Lift kits are available from muddymods.com

If yer have a search in the freelander section you'll see eggsamples of how fellow freelandrers have lifted theirs.

A standard Freelander 1 is surprisingly good oft road. Depends what yer want to do with it. If yer choose yer root carefully theres a lot it will do in standard form. Video link below.

I really endorse this. Choose your tyres carefully, don't go mad with massive treads, learn how capable the vehicle can be and enjoy chugging past more expensive vehicles. If it's a Td4, there's loads of bottom end to keep you going. This comes from an old git with 6 gundogs so it's not speculation.
 
@Hippo Thanks for the advice... If I'm honest I've never really properly driven off-road so this is an all new start of experience for me. I've seen some kits of the 40mm variety say no modification required but everything ive read has various mods e.g. cutting things o_O

@DevonGuy Any recommendation to tyres? There is a part of the shoot where my uncle seems to enjoy getting his Discovery 1 stuck and been pulled out a few times by the gamekeepers Navara. I'd love to be able to go to the same slippy bit and show him how to 'Simply Drive Through' :D

As for the flak I'm pretty thick skinned and work in an RAF Hangar so used to comments being thrown around haha
 
You should consider what will be most important to you, driving off road or on. Radical lifts and go anywhere tyres will not be conducive to good road handling. If good off road capability is prime, get an early defender.

@Colthebrummie I've got the FL1 for nothing mate but I've always wanted a Defender. I was hoping to try and get a happy medium in all honesty... Capable off-road when shooting or when fancy it as live in the country but also something I can load up and travel in when we go camping
