let me put it this way i got all the recovery equipment and more should i waight for someone to go out and play or enjoy my hobbie whenever i want to ????

but i must say its more fun to watch your mates get stuck and one other point green lanes you should not get stuck bur experiance is the point hear

I think the key factor here is common sense. It is difficult to be sensible about a subject if you have no experience of it and so newcomers should always have someone to whom they can turn when the **** hits the fan...

More experienced laners will be able to make judgements for themselves based on their own experiences but bewarned.... I have seen some very experienced laners caught out... at the end of the day the most important piece of recovery equipment will always be your mobile phone... assuming you have mates of course.:D

i always **** myself when on some kind of ridiculously tight lane, down the side of a banking, under heavy tree cover etc etc, imagine if you had a puncture, wheel bearing failure, or worse a swivel ball snaps off (like happened to me once at a PnP) how on earth would you go about sorting that one out.

its a proper cant open the doors jobby, youd be knackered. beter remortgage and hope you could be airlifted!

i know i was taking the **** i know that there are allways going to be things you dont think of happen when you least think they will
but for me haveing a fully serviced car in top notch condition every time you go out allmost negates structural or machanical failer
but again i would not stop or hindern someone on a budget who wants a good day out i would advocate that either go out with
1 an experianced person
2 go with others who have recovery equipment and know how to use it
3 if you dont think you can not do it turn around many times i have and on a few the people i have been with have got truley stuck almost 4 hr to get them out dont be brave

i know just ask ratty as he had to combe and help it was that bad and there is a morral there if you dont think or like what you see dont do it

the only place id go laning on me own is round rochdale and surrounding areas as i know evry lane round there like th hole in me arse as i know nearly all the farmers n land owners round those parts many of whom dont particularly use those lanes anymore and i always make sure they know im there before i do often theyll ask me to shift a fallen tree n give me a chainsaw for the privelage of useing their land or ask me to re tag a couple of sheep while im up that way never been stuck yet

on the other hand i wouldnt go exploring new lanes without another vehicle there coz thats just askin fer trouble :D:D:D:D:D

where in rochdale do you go mate,im in littleborough

Well that lane I went down was pretty mundane to be honest, we did it again in my mates Disco V8 just as a "first lane" type thing and was fine.

However, we are now looking for some more challenging lanes in the Bucks/Herts area, so any other recommendations?

Both vehicles are a bit more prepared now - JATE rings on the front (towbars on the rear), diff guards front and rear, decent tyres all round (either A/T's or M+S) and we've both removed the front bumpers for extra clearance. Also have decent tow strop in each car, plus I have a seperate 7T x 1m strop to go between the two bow shackles that attach to the front JATE rings, to spread the load a bit. Also carry a shovel, thick leather gloves and a pair of wellies, just in case!

So, any recommendations of some more local lanes we can explore? :)
