Afternoon all got my self a poor man’s disco so I had the issue of going into limp mode or no, but no boost mode going flat when I first brought it so I’ve replaced the air filter and it seems to have stopped but now I don’t really have much power, and when I get to sort of 3 1/2 thousand rpm I get black smoke would replacing the vacuum lines and the turbo inlet be a good start or am I looking in the wrong locations? FYI, I’m mechanically minded to a point where I can turn a spanner and use a ratchet.

Hey!

Which Freelander 1 or 2? What year and engine?

It looks old but no spilts put a new air filter in and now the issue has stopped just a new issue has come to light no limp mode just bit of black smoke and low on power
I would run some diesel treatment through. You may have possibly a clogged egr valve. Is the black smoke all the time or just when you accelerate

Check all 4 rubber boost hoses for damage, holes or splits.

Also replace all the vacuum hoses, replace the little turbo filter, and clean out the inlet manifold of the accumulated goop.
