Just asking your views on first dibs on something?
Are the days "my word is my bond" gone?

I maybe an old fashioned kind of person but when I say I'm going to do something I mean it.

I'll give you an example of the kind of thing I'm talking about.

Some thing's for sale, I posted 1st dibs please.
3 hours later someone posts I'll have it.
The reply goes, if you pay first it's your's, cos I haven't heard back for the past hour.
2 PM's later, they can't even me asked to reply.
My rant over.

Do I name & shame them????????

NOT F**KING HAPPY :mad2:

As far as I'm concerned first person to post and say they'll have it is the person its sold to

A few weeks ago I asked for a light that was going begging.

I got the PM saying it was mine for the cost of postage.

Since then I have heard nothing.

I have to admit that it could have been my fault because I did clear a lot out of my PM box, so if whoever is out there that still has the lamp, could you please re-PM me your details. :D

On eBay yesterday I made an offer on a tyre changer and wheel balancer. It was accepted and I arranged to collect it at 4:45pm on Tuesday. Got another e-mail later saying he couldn't guarantee it would still be there then as he had recieved other interest. I told him to stick it and have gone and ordered the very same machines brand new as by the time I'd got them serviced which they needed, bought some of the accessories that were missing I wasn't a million miles away from the new price.

Many times I've agreed to sell cars for a price, then been contacted by other people offering more. But if I've made a deal I'd NEVER go back on it!

Ultimately the item is the sellers to sell to whoever they want. However, if you say you will have something at a certain price and they agree then id say thats a deal. Your just a cnut if you back out after that.

I use eBay as its the best place to advertise to a bigger audience and when buying it has more choice. I will and do take offers from outside eBay and i also send my email to people i want to buy from so they can cary the conversation on outside of eBay. thus saving ourselves the ridiculous charges.

I have had some right tools though who have refused to sell something that I've won. What does my head in is if its a no reeve auction and it sells, how can you have any grounds to say it didn't reach the right amount?!

I know to whom you refer Lol, having similar experience on other goods trying to buy Pity the fleabay rating system don't apply here.

Don't understand why folk go to the bother of posting ad, taking pics etc then don't get in touch.........

All "busy" I spose!

I've bought and sold stuff on here, and never had a problem.

If I was selling stuff, and someone says first dibs, then I would put 'sold subject to collection/payment' on the thread.

perhaps not, it's not always immediately apparent on some p.c.'s that you have pm

my home pc brings up a message in the middle of the screen, but my work one doesn't

why not just post back up on the thread ?

Surely if you was selling something you'd check to see if anybody has posted but yes i've already posted back.

he isnt always on here and as has been said sometimes you don't get the emails to say someone has pm'd you, but I do know how you feel, I have fallen foul of similiar experiences on here too ;)

Stuff happens ..

A bloke (on here) asked if anyone wanted cheap, crap tyres and wheels, I said yes, we agreed £20 .. all I wanted to pay, 'cos I wanted to move a vehicle around, HE suggested the price!

Next day he pops a pic up, someone says hey, that's a boost alloy and decent tyre, they're £50 each minimum .. I never got them.

Tw4ts exist everywhere .. you know who you are ..

I've only ever had good dealings on here and my mantra on here or ebay or indeed anywhere - is treat others as you want to be treated yersel.

Obviously things happen beyond peoples control or decisions need to be reversed, but I'm pretty sure if everyone is kept informed and up to date most ill will and bad feeling can be avoided.

I once sold a pair of girls shoes on ebay that were marked up as one size (9) but were smaller (6). I didn't know as they were in a bag of stuff SWMBO said to get shot of... sold them to a lady up country who contacted me informing me of the 'fault' so rather than the rigmarole of having 'em back I said could you find someone they would fit and have half yer dosh back - she agreed, I still had a little bit of cash to cover postage and I think a neighbour of the lady who was in financial difficulties had a brand new pair of school shoes for her daughter as a gift as they were all rallying round her.
