Hello everyone :dnfnoob: I collected my 2003 Facelift Td5 D2 about a month ago, Had an issue in week 2 when the prop shaft came apart (Front half was left hanging down underneath. Fixed under warranty)

But last night while driving my wife and kids to a play centre, We broke down :frusty:

We were travelling at about 65 / 70mph on the motorway I was overtaking, when there was a lack of power, then the dash lights came on, Engine stalled and we had to make a dash for the hard shoulder.

Upon opening the bonnet and looking inside, there was a lot of steam / Smoke and an oily residue was all over the fan, Engine, Battery covers, All over the aux Belt. RAC patrol said it was just oil, but i am sure it had a diesel taint also.

Dipstick reading is almost off the handle! so far too much in there, I will be looking at this tomorrow so will know for sure.
Also while the bonnet was open, I noticed the Front Cam seal had been blown out (found it underneath).

Does anyone have any ideas to

1. How are where diesel could be getting into the engine oil (Seen Injector O rings are a common fault)

2. What could have caused the lack of power / stalling?

3. What do i need to be looking for other than Things i have mentioned?

I have basic knowledge of car maintenance and upkeep but this is my first td5. Where can i get good quality parts that don't come with a lead price tag?

I am no longer covered by warranty so i am now paying to fix these issues :(

Thanks in advance, and sorry for the length of this.

Please help me to save my :deadhorse: TD5

Hi , I would not be surprised it you lost power because of the lose of oil pressure if front cam cover had popped out. it also can lose power /shut down if over heats , your best thing is to drain all oil out 1st put the right amount in and put new front cam cover in . Then check all other fluids . And she how runs .

Code:
Injector seals have failed filling up engine oil with diesel causing all the issues you have.

+1

Change injector o rings and copper washers, re-adjust the injectors, replace cam seal, change oil and both filters and Job done. You were lucky it didn't run away with its self with all the diesel in the sump.

First and most important thing: DO NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THIS IS RECTIFIED !

The problem is that you have diesel accumulating into the engine sump. This is diluting the engine oil and making it useless for protecting the engine !

It is really important that the selling garage come and collect the vehicle.

It is also important that you consider asking for your money back.

This problem can be caused by leaking fuel injectors; but also by a cracked head !

You need to reject this vehicle straight away before more time passes and get your money. At this stage you have no way of knowing how much damage has been done to the engine, it is faulty so get it back to the supplier and get your money back.

If you don't deal with this immediately, you may end up with a series of bodged repairs until the warranty runs out then you are truly stuffed. It's just not worth it.

Get your money back and find another, get it examined by a professional, then you'll have a fighting chance of a reliable Disco.

Good luck,

Dave

Agree that you need new injector seals and O rings. Use genuine LR seals and washers only, around £30. Make sure the seats are spotlessly clean before you fit the copper washers and O rings. Also check the injector housing is not cracked ( as mine was).

Hey everyone, After an eventful day I have an update.

After managing to drain almost all of the contaminated oil out, I added some flush and new oil to get correct level, I turned the engine over and straight away could hear / see either an injector seal has given up completely or the injector itself has had it.

The engine started with a misfire, Clouds of white smoke then after about 30 seconds the rev's began to climb :jaw: So instinct took over and I turned off the ignition and removed the key, The rev's continued to climb for a short while, Then without a bang, or pop the engine died and turned off.

I haven't turned it over again since :dnfnoob:

I have also spoken to the garage, although I am now 4 days out of warranty they will look at it for free provided i can get it to them, and will fix anything "simple" free of charge, however if it is major I will have to pay half.

What is the best way to take this forward?

Do I tell the garage What i know? Or let them do their own fault finding?

There were no replies this morning when i attempted to drain the contaminated oil, On advice given from a diesel mechanic it would be ok to turn over the engine as long as i could kill power to the ignition.

Looks like my fiddling days on TD5 will start again with some simple cleaning

I will be trying to arrange for the Disco to be moved to their garage to be inspected and hopefully fixed FOC, If not i will use the link that Ratty (Thank You) Posted, And see what is said.

Thanks for your input guys

Guess my lack of knowledge is worse than I thought

10 year old motor and out of warranty, you cant demand your money back I on a new car in warranty without give the garage a fair chance to fix it.
