Long story .. short ..
Whilst taking part in the Swiss semi finals for off road navigation, Gwydion ( my son - Navigator) and I got the final stage where upon there was a smell of melting plastic and hotness ... strange .. crossed the finishing line in 3rd place ( awesome makes us 4th in the years ranking ) parked up and switched off the headlights .. which wouldn't .. and then a whisper of smoke from the dashboard.. then more smoke ...
bonnet up disconnect battery ... ok ...
Headlamp switch too hot to touch, the switch had literally welded itself into the on position after the last 5 hours of daylight driving.
Daytime headlights are law in Switzerland.

Ok not a big issue, rewired the fan switch to a headlight switch.. got home.

I have now ordered an H4 conversion and the dreaded boomslang relay loom.

Any advice on this? fitting and so on please.

Oh and also have a new gear lever on order in the vain hope that it will cure the tiresome 4th gear rattle .. or not?

Gear lever rattle - I found a child's Croc over the lever works a treat. We were on a long run and the overdrive lever was driving me mad then my son kicked off his shoe onto the lever and hey-ho, the noise stopped!
In the end I shimmed it very carefully but the Croc was still more effective!

Boomslang are a great addition, you still need to extend the wiring looms but it makes such a difference. Its built for the Defender but after a bit of fettling you'll notice a difference in your lights

Have you fitted one? can you explain in a bit more detail.. extending on which end?
I also have H4 conversion sets on the way.

Hi Simon,

I had to extend the wiring from the right hand side (RHD Drivers side) as it was too short. Apart from that its a good upgrade just ask on here.

If you PM me i'll try and take some photos of it fitted with the location of the relays etc. Its a real easy fit and the instructions are easy to follow.
