I did it on my scrapper, no problem at all with no special tools. Is this possible on a scrap engine without buying sprocket holding tool(s)?
Don't about the specific tool you mention but, I've found with special tools in general not to go for the cheapest,Thanks Lads. Being as I'm going to need that puller tool to refit a pump AND I intend to do the chains etc at some point...is there a cheapo kit that has all the bits in to do everything? ie- pump sprocket holder and pusher, timing pin and the camshaft holding thingy? I think I've found one on ebay for £40 odd and seeing that the holding tool alone is well over half that then it makes sense to go for the complete kit, if they are indeed only £40 odd.
Ebay sellers descriptions are not clear to me which one I should get or avoid. Anybody got one who's happy to recommend to purchase?
I've already got the injector socket with the window and the split ring doo dahh for the injector pipes.

if your just doing the chains and pump on a p38 you just need the sprocket holding tool and the cam timing tool and flywheel TDC lock pin out of that kit but you will also need a dial gague and timing kit for the VE pumpIs this the one? £50
