Plus if it is stolen, you're considered guilty in the eyes of the law for handling stolen goods. So you lose the motor, your money and if you're really unlucky a criminal record.DLVA said phone police, but they will not tell me if its stolen because of the data protection act??
No wonder no one finds there stolen landy parts, even if you suspected its stolen you cant find out if it is

I think it's the chance you take if it's just an engine. The person you bought it from should have documents for it.

Ask for a. Receipt with enging number on it and I'd number of he's driving licence put on if he is willing at Least your coverd

Not if you have the sellers details, a receipt of purchase and no connection to the original theft, the person who sold it would be responsible, it would still be taken and you would have to persue a loss action against the seller but you would not be held accountable for handling stolen goods

There is no way to check if its stolen anyway, not that i can find.
You would think with the way landrovers get stolen and broken for parts that you should be able to quickly check if something you are buying is stolen but all the police told me was google HPI and do a check but this is only possible if you have a reg number

you think you got problems with the english system i have bought a dutch registered disco tdi commercial problem is the dutch owner was on holiday in england and sent a con rod through the gearbox so it was sat at foleys specialist vehicles who took ownership after the owner did not pay up my dad bought it on my behalf put an engine and gearbox in it and did a paper saying he sold it to me now the dutch mot etc has run out and im trying to register it in poland where i live its a bluddy nightmare because everything has to be translated in to polish all the documents the whole lot plan was register it drive it to poland but nope nightmare
