I have my Rangey but apart from that this is my other car. I'm not exactly spoilt for choice when it comes to visiting Tesco.

P.S. I left one of the bonnet retaining pins up in the wide-angle shot hence the reason why the bonnet is out of alignement in the pic. Silly, I know.

This 90 seems like a good purchase but I'm wondering if I should go for the 200/300 lumps after reading some of the threads on here.

8k seems very reasonable indeed for a 90 which appears to be in good condition, scratch on the panel aside, that is.

It looks to have been used for towing caravans etc.

That looks a beauty and its got the TD5 engine, if only :D

The TD5 lump seems to be a strange bit of kit; a bit like Marmite where you either love or hate it.

Some threads on here suggest that a 200/300 engine is the best for simplicity plus low gremlin stats, whereas the TD5-unit has electrical niggles.

I'm still reading and learning but I suspect that the TD5's niggles can be sorted using programme software updates via TOPIx.
 
Whilst admittedly my off-roading experience could be written on the back of a postcard... if you look how few mods were made to the camel trophy disco's and range rover classics and set that against what they put them through, a good rust free stock as a rock vehicle has surely got to be the best starting point?

Similarly, whilst I can appreciate the value of certain bolt on bits - sump / diff guards, a roll cage and a suitable winch, it does make me wonder just how much difference the extra bits *really* make out in the wild and how much of it is just a confidence booster in your head?

Genuine question / musings - we're all here to learn, right???

I wouldn't want to risk a cast diff caseing having a twacking :confused:

Yes, I agree, which is why I said I appreciate the value of certain bolt on bits and cited diff guards in my original post...

I suppose I was alluding to, for example, the monster truck - style wheel and tyre competitions?
Does it really make that much difference or is it all psychological? i.e I've spent £X so I *MUST* get Y% better performance in situation Z?

I keep coming back to the camel trophy cars - basically standard plus a few bolt on bits and thinking "do you really need any more than that?"?
 
Id start with a chelsea tractor thats not even mounted a curb and then spec it how you want(if at all). I would never buy a LR thats been off road or towed much.

You will be hard pressed to find a off road ready landy thats mint so either buyone already done and put up with the dents and scrapes as you will only be adding to them or buy a nice clean standard one (like i did) and wreck it :D

why not? mine had obviously been used offroad, but it also came with a box file of receipts that wouldn't close as it was too full

I know what my offraod driving is like. And all of you lot's off road driving too. If it can be broken it will. And repaired, some bodge, some ok. But buying an enthusiasts motor and expecting good things of it is niave.

Look at getting standard and modding yourself best way. Used to have jap but went to German tuner scene. Stronger better built.
You dead set on defender? Discoveries are just as capable as defenders both are unreal as standard the mod from there. Mine has a 2" lift waiting but I'm enjoying trying to push the limits as it sits(yes yes I know)

One more Landy and Jap Performance enthusiast. I just knew there would be someone else on this forum with similar hobbies.

The Supra is one of the four Original Top Secret Final Evolution Supes from Smokey's place in Japan. It runs the HKS T51R Signature Turbo while the wheels were purchased from the US and the 2004 Fast & Furious Film Set, namely the Veilside Andrew Evolution Vs with a 10cm dish. They are the exact same wheels from the F&F Veilside Orange & Purple Widebody RX7.

I have fitted 275 rubber to the front (i.e. rears from an M3 Turbo) and 305/30/19 (from a Lambo Diablo) on the back in an attempt to get some traction by the time you get to 4th gear; not easy though.

The Decals are not everybody's liking but hey-ho, we can't all be the same:D.
 
P.S. The Blue Landy in my Avatar is something we agreed to purchase yesterday so I've gone for a bog-standard Rover as per evereyone's advice.:D

I'll start stripping it when it arrives and give it a health check prior to sorting the damage and adding bits if required.

It is running a built 3.5 V8 so should be fun already.

Two more for now. Two of the three are from the original sales advert and the other is from the owners own collection. The rest of the pics highlight the bad bits but that's something I will sort out when I get my hands on it.
