New VCU fitted by Austen from Bells yesterday, work took less than half an hour, well worth the £320 fitted for peace of mind much better on way home no braking effect on full lock just the 4 hour round journey that was the killer lol

Next is to find what the groaning noise on full lock is now, thought would be IRD related by Austen says its fine so rear brakes are the next culprit as I've not touched them yet

Good result! I am increasingly tempted to go this way myself - although that kind of goes against the whole Project philosophy, it would probably be easier and worth the spend given the limitations of my front drive! LOL

Have you changed the power steering fluid. That'll groan if the fluids had it. Dextron 3 atf does the trick.
Mike

Fluid probably has had it as it's now down 131k but its a rhythmic groan and not constant it's not as bad since VCU been replaced but still there sounds more like its something catching and reverberating the noise through the transmission at first thought it was the stress of a knackered vcu but its got to be something else now

The struts can make some weird noises, or maybe a dodgy spring. If you think it might be that they are cheap 2nd hand from a scrappy. If you can, get one from a K series as it will have had an easier life.

Have a look underneath and see if anything is rubbing... when was the steering fluid checked?

Springs all good from what I can see, starting to wonder if it could be a dry wheel bearing too

Fluid levels on the max mark not inspected any further than that

Can't see anything currently, moved the rotten brake shields away from the disc when i cleaned up the brakes too to remove them from the question

Check the exhaust hangers.
Mike

Brand new as is the exhaust from front to rear doesnt move hardly at all

Must be something wheel/ hub/brakes related as it only does it when you're moving forward on full lock you don't get it in reverse or when your sat still going from lock to lock

Not your tyres rubbing against the chassis or underwork, if the steering stops are fubarred this can happen, or if the previous owner has changed tyres and not put spacers on ...

Its not that old roll bar bushes perished chestnut? The bushes perishing (and end clamps falling off?) allowing the roll bar to move sideways and interfere with what ever it interferes with.
