Well I finally now have my Freelander (I say its mine, its my Dads and I'm borrowing it for 12 months or so as he is working abroad)

I'm quite impressed too! Its a TD4. Done 145k (03 plate). More than happy keeping up with motorway traffic, doesnt sound or look like its done that many miles (after 8 hours of scrubbing as it was FILTHY!!)

It had an EGR bypass fitted but ran like ****e so went back to the (cleaned out) EGR. Crankcase breather mod for a BMW part done. Rear window plays up a lot, and the spring in the rear door handle doesnt work properly - I'm led to believe these are common faults but havent looked into it yet. The driver door speaker is gubbed as well, and water got into the front interior light but again small stuff really.

Anything else I should pay particular attention to or watch out for?

I've used a spring from a pen to fix the rear door handle. Worked a treat.

Rear door handle springs are available on EBay.

Do the one wheel up test, as in the sticky at the top of this page. At that mileage, the VCU is bound to be stiffening, even if it was replaced at 70K miles.
Water in the interior light is likely the aerial as some seals weren't fitted correctly from the factory. If the nut unscrews ok? Clean up the paint underneath the aerial base seal then coat in some plumber's silicone grease before refitting the aerial base. This should stop the leak.

As its your dad's car, that increases wading depth by 20cm - check the additional depth.

Cool, I know its had the VCU replaced but I couldnt tell you the mileage (I forgot to ask) and he's sealed the aerial - I just need to whip the interior assembly apart and have a look.

Might have a look at that! To be honest its not too bad - theres a knack to getting in and out of the back. I've been told not to lower the tailgate window as it might not go back up which is a bit more of a worry :-o

Was surprised at how well it bimbled along at "motorway speeds"! Havent gone wading in it yet but I'll bear it in mind
