hi guys and girls,
finally picked up my freelander today and i'm loving the higher driving position and sports seats. what i'm not loving so much it the tailgate window has failed, cable snapped and can now be pushed up and down by hand so the seller has refunded me a repair kit cost off ebay plus a few quid for me to do it, fair enough i suppose.
also theres a knocking noise underneath the handbrake centre column area, like two bits of plastic banging together? its a 3 door sport manual td4 53 reg. i'm sure this has been asked on here before??
i've commented on in the post titled drive chain and there seems to be a few local places that could look at the VCU. could this be whats causing the knocking noise??
thanks everyone,
Paul

Yup done that. I've read everything from how to fix a leaky floor pan through to how to change a front headlight indicator bulb.
I've got the knocking noise down to rear subframe mount, vcu, vcu bearings and maybe exhaust mounts. There's a place in bewdley that will hopefully look at my vcu for me for free.
I also found out today the drivers door speakers dont work so guessing cables have broken somewhere on the wiring loom?!

Door speaker has probably failed as water gets down onto the connectors. Worth trying to clean the terminals, but they are cheap enough on ebay and a simple fix.

Sadly not the speaker. Tried the drivers speaker on the passenger and works fine so guessing cables have snapped somewhere. Does anyone know where they plug into one in the car wing?
Cheers

Enjoy the tailgate job - it's a swine to get right and some of the cable replacements on fleabay are the wrong sizes....I know...I've still got the scars.

Knocking noise under the handbrake - I'd check the VCU bearings (just done mine). Does the knocking speed up/slow down with the speed of the car?

If you're worried that the VCU itself has gone, easy way to test it is to reverse in full lock. If the VCU's had it, it will feel like someones put the brakes on full. Be warned, if the VCU has gone solid it either needs to be replaced or the prop removed as you'll end up killing the IRD and rear diffs with the strain going through all four wheels.

your door speaker will defo be the cables when i brought mine 2 of the speakers were not working the garage (Stratstones) fixed them and said it is the cheap wireing from china that is at fault

Thanks for the info guys. I've never heard of those two words before in the same sentence, cheap and china. Lol there flimsy little things so will just wire in two new ones but do u know where they plug into once there in the car? I'm thinking under steering wheel somewhere??
The vcu is being checked hopefully this week at bell engineering. I'm hoping its just the bearings that way hopefully a recond vcu from bell will sort and hopefully not the diff and ird as well :(
