After over 12 years of wanting one, I finally pulled the trigger. I'm in a more financially stable position and was able to get some great financing, so I went scouring the web for a project Defender I could work on indefinitely. Found a perfect one I can import from the UK: 1993 Defender 110.

Paid 10k pounds for it, which is bit high for the UK market given condition but fine for me as a US buyer since I have very narrow requirements I need to meet to be able to import. It only has about 30k miles on it as well. In great mechanical shape, but chassis could use some TLC. Otherwise, I'm super excited!! I am finally able to have to car of my dreams! It gets picked up this week, and with any luck by the end of the month, my baby will be in my driveway!

Pls tell me you checked the mot history?

That's great news and we hope you enjoy your new purchase. Like @lynall suggests we have the ability to trace the work and mileage history of a vehicle online, hopefully this confirms what you agreed to. Welcome

You can check its MOT history at check-motservice.gov.uk
It has had a lot of problems over the years and showed only 13 miles in 2006, so mileage for the previous 13 years is missing. Sorry to rain on your parade but make sure you know what you are buying.

Thanks for the help. Yeah, it was apparently in storage until 2006 when the current owner bought it. I also had a mobile mechanic check it out and he said what he saw seems to support the low miles.

What about the bulkhead problems?
Some of the defects just do not add up, 11772 miels and track rods ends worn enough to fail the mot? and other stuff that fits with a high miler well used car, and not a low mileage in storage car?
The whole mot history says to me it has been well used, but not well looked after.

What about the chassis problems?

Frame is solid with just surface rust. Under the front driver and passenger side floor there's a good bit of rust that will likely need patching or repatching. Not overly concerned about that, as I'm planning on swapping it out for a galvanized chassis. I was just looking for something and mechanically good condition that I could still drive while I swap things out piece by piece.

Just edited my post, as I realised it was bulkhead and not chassis issues.
Whatever you do good luck, I just did not want to see someone get burned.

I very much appreciate it. In hindsight, I probably should have reached out here first. I posted on another forum but didn't really get any traction. The mechanic called it a "project car", which I'm fine with. I want something to work on indefinitely. He said everything fires right up and drives well, so maybe some of the issues were fixed? I plan on taking it to a local British shop when it gets here to give me a list of things to do, so I guess I'll see for certain what I bought then. Thanks again for the feedback!

Without a shadow of a doubt LZ is the best LR forum by quite some margin, yes we are mainly weird bloody British, but the wealth of knowledge on here is amazing.

Hope all goes well for you. Hope engine ID number and transmission are correct. And the chassis ID number is correct for the year, and body ID is correct as well as the color. Axles and brakes are correct for the year.

@DefenderAtl .. the first order of business when you receive your Defender is to get a damn good Bluetooth tracker and security system.
I've had 3 break in attempts on my Disco 2 in Smyrna and in Brook Haven back in 2017-2018.
I'm soooooooooo glad I left Georgia. Congrats and good luck.

Crazy. Good to know. I'll look into it. Thanks!
