Hi there.
I'm new to your forum and just wondered if anybody could help with a bit of a problem i have. I have a 1999 landy 110 and just recently i've been getting a loud whirring when i put it in fifth gear. All through the rev range in the gear the noise is there and obviously it gets louder as the revs increase. I wondered if anybody had encountered the same trouble or new if there was anything i could try to sort it. Would the gearbox oil condition/level make a difference in just that gear or would the oil affect all the gears? Will it be that the box has to come out to have the gear looked at? The first four gears are all fine. If anybody could shed any light or offer any advice I'd be really grateful.
cheers, pete.

cheers for replying. i thought as much like. is it easy to get hold of parts for it to be repaired or is it curtains for the box.

Its quite a cheap job if you do the box yourself..its just a piggy getting the box in and out...i think a recon box is about £800 from Ashcrofts..which is generally considered 'a lot'.

Or you can go down the route of a good used one from a breaker/fleabay..i was lucky, i got a low mileage one for £50...but its a risk..

Mine was £800 although thats delivered to Laos and its an LT77 where yours will be a later box.

hi you can buy recon boxes from £395 upwards easiest box to work on ,needs doing before more damage is done ,either worn 5th gear or rear tail bearings in aluminum housing .can be done with box in vehicleas long as you dont distrurb the cast iron housings on box
