Howdy all,

First off I should probably point out that I'm not a hippy, but I am feeling the love already on this forum from seeing all your replies to each other, so I'm sure that I'm in the right place with a good community and plenty of knowledge tucked away on here! :D:D:D

So! To myself, I'm Tom, live in North London and have always fancied a Land Rover in my life, I did toy with the idea of an L322 Range Rover for a while before deciding that an older Disco would be the way to go! Besides i have the tweed and a black Labrador so of course it's the perfect car for me! ;)

I have to admit that I've never had one before, a few mates have had a couple of Defenders between them, but I fancied something (dare I say it) slightly more suited to dual carriage ways/motorways etc and I think I've found it in my new Discovery 300 TDI. The car was quite cheap and hence not perfect, but that added to the charm for me! As I said, this would be the first I've ever had 4x4 wise (and also the first diesel I've ever had! So a double whammy!) Outside of the Landy World my tendencies have alway been a bit Japanese and currently consist of this (Evo 6 (569bhp):

And this (R33 Skyline (641bhp)...

And... Last but not least Pepper! (Sporting her Summer sunnies!)

So as you can see... I couldn't be anymore out of depth in the new World of Landy-ownership and with Pepper demanding ever more comfy and capable cars to take her to countryside (both of which the above aren't exactly suited :p) Enter Player 3...

One slightly worse for wear 300 TDI - the weird thing is that I wasn't expecting it to steal my heart quite as much as it has already, it's a totally different world of cruising around without a car in the World... So my previous plans of not modding it and using it as a second/third car have gone a little out the window and want to show her some love now :p:p:p

So I'll try to get some kind of a build thread to together to chronicle the progress, but in the mean time! Hi!! And thanks in advance for the help!

:):cool::D
Tom.

Welcome, rusty much?

Haha, yes she has some built in weight saving included ... But that should balance out with the bargaineous price I paid, that was with 12 months M.O.T. so I have some time to figure what I'm doing and hopefully find my feet and then get busy with the panel removal and fire up the M.I.G. for the first time in years

:)

Hi Tom, and welcome!
I too am well out of my comfort zone here. Like yourself i am a Jap man, having built this bad boy from a bit of a wreck!

I have just picked up a 300TDI Defender which is great fun - sometimes i feel i should have got a discovery as half my milage is on the motorway also. But I have always wanted a defender so we shall see how it goes.

One thing that might be worth mentioning - dont expect it to just work like the Jap stuff! My honda really was (and is) never any trouble.....Cant say the same for the defender!!

Awesome a fellow Jap person (that sounds weird I know! Haha)

Well all cars need some love and attention, this one might need more than other but she's love-able already and that's good enough for now and Pepper can't use a Bride seat, so the Landy has to be up to the job on that front! Have you got a thread on your Defender going?

Welcome to comfortzone. ....

No wait...

Well, we'll see - she's looking and feeling good at the moment, problems along the way I can deal with, so the plan is to make this my new comfort zone and until you've driven a 600+ GTR on the road (where every random noise freaks you out a little) you'll never feel the feeling of relief I have when driving my new purchase.

:D

You will start to notice that rumbling transfer box over the throb of one of the eight wheel bearings that's started to dry out that had been masking the whine of the the R380 in fifth soon enough, on the upside parts are dead cheap and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out how to fix or replace them. Enjoy your blissful ignorance now whilst you can, I envy you the honeymoon period I really do.

Haha,

Well, I have enough other cars to water down the fact that the Landy may need some love and attention over the coming months. I've done quite a bit with projects, involving different engines, conversions, rebuilds, even 4WD converting a Corrado many moons ago so I'm more than able and willing with the grinder/MIG so bring it on! Indeed (and I may regret saying this) it's got to the stage where I dread doing anything on the others as they're so far gone it brings on a small stress induced heart attack with the money 'invested (yes that should stay in inverted commas))) haha).

So a car I really don't mind hacking about will come as a welcome change... Have you got a build thread/link to yours, I'd like to read the transition between pre/post honeymoon period haha.

:D:D:D
