followed the e40 from calais to bruxelles , luxembourg , metz , then east towords strasbourg (first day , hell of a drive but this was the boring part anyways) camped close to dahn in the forest.
next we went down to bazel , bern , montreux , martingny where we headed east again to sion, this is where our route through the alps really started.
we camped the next night in fafleralp north of goppenstein,
went to brig the next day where we headed north into the mountains to naters , we then got a cable car to the top and a short walk brought us to ( GROSSER ALETSCHGLETSCHER - SWITZERLAND Photo Gallery by David Ferdman at pbase.com ) grosser aletschgletscher , a must see if you are in the area.
we then headed north east from brig (the road splits) and found a camp site for the night.
to cut a long story short we went to furkapass where we went to see the Grosser Aletschgletscher ( Grosser Aletschgletscher - Google Image Search ) , you can walk inside this glacier and its stunning , well worth a visit, oberalppass and then on to chur.
we then headed south to st moritz , east to bolzano ,cortina , then south to venice.

there was a lot of diversions , days here and there , a hotel due to really heavy thunder and lightening rain storms , lots of glaciers and sight seeing.

a day was spent in venice (you can leave your car in the port and walk in) before catching a 27 hour ferry to corfu.just over a couple of weeks exploring corfu's mountain tracks (there are literally hundreds and hundreds of miles of off road tracks on the island) and secluded beaches then back home along pretty much the same rout.

took around 4-5 weeks in total but well worth the effort , around 10days to get there , around 17 days in greece and around a week to get home , wasnt really counting.:)

worked out almost as cheap as most 2 week package holidays , but not quite.

Top man, nice pictures there mucker, i'd love to do something like that, skeggys about my limit at the minute though.

Fookernell Nobber, that looks truly awesome, used to live there and now feel the need to go back as it's been a while - now on the back of you postin the ohoties am planning the big trip!!! Ace photies, looks like a great time, am very jealous!

where was that ode?
Me folks lived in Athens for some of when we was growin up, we used to use it as the base to head out to all the islands - tis really the most awesome place! Gotta say me fave island is Kythera, stunning and totally unspoilt. Never bin to Corfu though, looks very nice! Am a complete grecophile and would give up everything tomorrow for it if i could!

she has a lot of family and friends there but its not the easiest place to make a living. lots of good green laning there though.:)

I try and get to greece at every possible opportunity - new young family makes it a bit tricky but am planning on brainwashing them into it at the earliest opportunity as well!!! Managed to brainwash Mrs D as well so that's a plus, and yes, the lanes (although more brown than green!!!) in greece are awesome, built by the army with a bulldozer and used by anyone - fantastic!!! Would love to get a 110 and do a good trip there in a few years, i think i'll have to get persuading now though!

I like Kythera (Kithira?) coz it's totally unspoilt, no international flights, limited tourism, cracking beaches and a really nice local feel to it, but all the islands have places where you can escape the manic party scene and have nice spots, i love it!!!

If i could justify it, or the UK family wasn't such a tie, i'd be there tomorrow - i love it!!!

hi nobber - excellent pics
I am also planning a trip to Corfu in Sept 09
can you tell me, did you wild camp in Greece or stay on campsites
Are there loads of campsites (never been to Greece before)
Do you get hastled if you try and wild camp
Of all the campsites that you stayed at on-route where there any particularly good ones that you can recommend
