I had the engine warning light on last week (Amber MIL) and went online to buy a faulty scanner as soon as I got home
Of course since then the light has been on and of but for the last few days it's been of but I haven't driven the landy much as I got not much work
I'm self employed

The scanner arrived today and I plugged it in following all the instructions
It will not connect to my car:confused:

Tried again and again running in and out of the house referring to the online manual
Eventually I suspected a faulty scanner and tried it on her indoors Fiat where it connected right away.

Is there a chance the port in my car is at fault?
Anyone ever had that problem?
Is there another port in the engine bay in could try? Can't find one myself

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated

what year is your car

Could be that it has the port but its not used if the car is very old ....????

It's on a 05 plate so it has to be the right port and got to be connected
to the car
Unless someone damaged it of course

The contacts can spread open in the socket. Does the reader power up? Lots take there power from the OBD port.

Yes it does power up via the port

I even removed the 3 AA battery's from the reader to check it power from there:)
All is not lost in that respect as the port work in regards of providing power.

Could it be down to a low battery?
Just a thought but I got this battery save guard that has been playing up recently
Just 10 minutes ago car wouldn't start so maybe save guard hasn't been playing but but should have advised me of a battery problem.
Until 10 mins ago it always started fine though

this looks like a great app

may i ask would it work on a 2002 auto freelander TD4 please

ive been searching for ages to get something that will show my MPG, not worried about having one that will clear codes etc

ive been reading through the details and cannot find if it will work with my freelander or my blackberry 9900 for the app

any help would be really appreciated if anyone has managed to get something with the same year as mine to show the mpg in live data

thanks again

Scanguage II will do that for you. Good bit of kit in my opinion. Several here have them installed.

ScanGaugeII : Linear Logic - Home of the ScanGauge

There's only one diagnostic piece of kit I would recommend for the Freelander and other Land Rover models with OBDII systems-Canbus or otherwise and that is the BBS Faultmate or Nanocom. Pricey-yes but puts you on a par at least-if not ahead, equipment wise of main dealer capabilities.
As a previous owner and user of BBS diagnostics related to the P38, which is more complex than the Freelander, I found that they are more than capable of reading and clearing faults without having to translate those annoying "P" codes. Plus you have the ability to read and write settings and "Force" outputs to check component function.
My advice is-save an extra few bob before jumping in to buy an advertised system which will "Give capability for your Land Rover". Also remember that an hours diagnostic time (Minimum charge) at a Main Stealer will cost around £80-£100....how many visits would it take to buy the proper kit ???? If you are serious about DIY diagnostics then buy the proper kit !!!!

Hiya me old buddy, yeh I know not so much of the old LoL

Hope your keeping well

Mine is a 2002 TD4 auto

Did you ever manage to sort out the nightmare with your hawkeye

Will check the link out as it will be fantastic if it works as we've discussed this before and you know me don't like giving up at the first hurdle

Like I didn't give up when the main dealers said you can't fit cruise control on a freelander

Had a quick look and it says the sale is ended but I imagine they will available else where

You had a V6 didn't you

My direct email is gstuart24@sky.com

I wonder if the software would work with my blackberry 9900 unless I could just use a laptop

Thanks again buddy

Hi

I find the confusing factor is mine has a BMW engine fitted , but some of the parts are the same as a rover

Now as it has a BMW engine I would then assume the ecu and electronics are done by them or what it rover etc, but then ford owned land rover for a while

The most annoying thing is when I've emailed companies and asked them can I come to you and just try one of your units to see if it works and if it does will buy one off you

But they just don't bother emailing back or if I call them there 2004 date seems to be set in stone

I asked them how does a 2002 ecu differ from a 2004 model, they can't nor won't tell me

Just very frustrating, it goes without question I can't be the only one that would like an app

Will wait to hear from optimus because he really does know his stuff to see if it works with a td4 2002 model
