Cheers Datatek - I would plan to go for the Single Vehicle System. I take it that this is something that you could 'sell on' with the car as an asset as it is specific to that car? Not that I am planning on selling..

You can also pay a small admin fee to have the SV transfered to another vehicle of the same model/class of software, or BBS will allow a percentage traded in against new software for a higher class of software, so I understand....

If I buy the single vehicle kit, can I still update this with specific modules for muti-vehicle use?

No problem with that.

I have an SV licence for my own P38 on one of the 3 identities. I then have a few multi vehicle modules for RRC and P38 on the 2nd identity. Looking at getting an SV for the gaylander at work on the 3rd identity.

Its a brilliant piece of kit

And the owners forum provides fantastic support too.

BBS_Guy is not following this forum anymore and also not giving the 10% discount to members here going forward.

I hadn't realised Colin had given up on the forum. Thats a real pity, but I don't blame him, he took woeful abuse here.
Granted, he brought some of it on himself but we as a forum have successfully driven out the greatest authority and resource on RR electronics to have ever put his head above the parapet.:(:(

Well done LZ'ers, who's the next target:doh::doh::doh:

:behindsofa: For what it's worth......I believe that just after BBSguy joined the forum, Story Wilson made the announcement that he was going to bring out the "Misunderstood" "Free" software package for the P38 in the very near future. This led to a minority of members stating that if Storey could do it, why couldn't BBS.
BBS did a special offer on a system for forum members which Mattstevenson organised a bulk buy at an attractive price and all credit is due to Matt for his efforts in taking the arrangements on board as Co-Ordinator for the purchase.
A certain number of members "Ganged up" on BBSguy and things started to get personal with remarks pointed at profiteering and self interest as the primary reason for joining the forum when in fact many posts related to helpful answers to members questions which made no reference to the products he manufactures and sells.
It now transpires that the P38 software package from Storey Wilson is low on the list of priorities and release dates and in fact is far from free of charge.
A lot of unnecessary ****e was thrown at BBSguy, he managed o.k. before joining the forum and like any normal person, I believe , thought "I can do without this crap" and walked away.
I have been a member here for quite a while and can give and take the humoured slagging that goes on. However we should all remember the core values of the forum which is to offer support on technical problems and genuinely create a means of communication between fellow members.
By all means keep the banter going, that's what makes the forum so special and unique compared with the others.

There was a second bulk buy organised by CO9??? I purchased a multi vehicle Faultmate Extreme, with the discount I think I got a bargain it's a truly great bit of kit. Not only was Colin abused on the site but I think he might just have his hands full with another project at the moment, and given that he has probably satisfied the needs of those interested in having the kit there is no reason for him to stay and put up with the abuse. I knocked him a few times too, he does not always couch his comments in a sensible way. Comes of being young and sucessful I guess:D I think a lot of the P38's will have gone to the great scrapheap in the sky by the time Storey has his P38 software running. From a business point of view he probably doesn't need it, he has his hands full keeping up with the newer stuff.

Being an electrical diagnosis virgin - other than basic stuff - can you'se that knows advise me if this bit of kit is all I need, it does say icludes everything required to diagnose all systems ............ ('98 2.5 DSE)

To be honest Irish i have not seen very many posts from Colin that did not push his products. Also Storey Wilson never said his hardware would be free. Only the software. Which is a stark contrast to BBS, were the hardware is reasonable and the software is through the roof. Swings and roundabouts. BBS stuff is very very good of that there is no doubt. But considering it is VIN locked it always could have been a lot cheaper. Cornered market, make the most of it. Can't blame a business man for that though i suppose. :):)

That covers everything for one vehicle that you are likely to need, apart from the SM035 BECM direct access module for which you need to have some technical knowledge to use.

I also bought:
AC001 POWER SUPPLY 100-240/12v
AC005 3 PIN POWER LEAD
And ordered the ODBII extension lead which came free of charge as a gift in the end. The supplied ODBII lead is only 18 inches long which means the server needs to sit in the foot well. Adding the extension gives you loads of room to put it any place you like in the car or outside for that matter. Buying the power supply means you can do any upgrades / licence maintenance in your house away from the car as the server gets it's power from the ODBII port in the car. For an extra £10 at the most it's worth having.
