Hi all, had the engine management icon come on today with no fault on the display?
I know my local garage charge around £30 odd to hook up to fault reader but while having a look I found variouse readers cheap for instance http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=151370285838
Seems very cheap but Would this read the fault and tell me the problem as it says in the listing?
If not what reader would?
It's for my 2002 Range Rover 4.4 petrol.
Apologies if this has already been asked but could not find.
Thanks :)

Whist that will read basic codes form the engine side only....you would be better off spending out on a Land Rover specific reader....

The All Comms from RSW Solutions is by far the best at the cheapest price...

You can then diagnose the whole car and not just a few Engine codes!

I've got a cheap generic one and it will read codes but not clear them... had a look around and at the time thought the IID tool from Gap was the best value for what it did, but there are several out there

I like the idea of the IIDTool, but if your message centre isn't working or the pixels are missing....it has limited usage!

(thankfully mine so far still work :D:D)

Oh and mine still won't talk to diagnostics either - love these cars!

After much soul searching and asking advice on here, I've gone for the All Comms and I'm currently giddily waiting it's entry into the UK. Can't wait to start clearing my own fault codes, so much neater than a piece of tape on the dash hiding the light (just kidding)

I waited a short while for mine to arrive, when it arrives in the UK, the importer (courier) will contact you with any import fees or duty required to be paid before they will continue to deliver it to you....

I was inpatient to wait, so once the tracking information indicated it had landed in the UK, I contacted them and paid over the phone, the unit then arrived 2 days later....

Else you will have to wait for them to write to you (a couple of days if not more), you to respond (another day) and then 2 more days for delivery!

As always, good advice

Cheers buddy

Ant, I only found post on the net with similar symptoms to you and that was due to the headlight leveling ECU, do you have one? ( i am always weary of telling you how to suck eggs)

Hey Andy, yep mine is fitted with the ECU and it is also disconnected and has been since I have owned it....

When the pop happened, i reconnected it to see it helped but still the same, so I disconnected it again.

Next thing for me to try is removing the levelling wire to the ABS ECU and see what happens!!

Oh, and never be weary...all input is welcome!

Fair one mate, it was actually an old post and you were helping the guy sort it out and he had lost diagnostics and i think he replaced his leveling ECU and got them back so you must be on the right track mate

I couldn't imagine life without diagnostics

It does give an uneasy feeling!!

Cheers for replys a proper diagnostic code reader is definetly on the cards for future.
I took my car to my local & there was a problem with the fuel , Apparently my v8 don't like the cheap asda petrol? Reset code for free & filled up (well 1/2 tank as on lpg) at BP and all seems well.
Took a punt on the cheap one as found it for £11 odd delivered in uk so not too worried if it does nothing. Thanks again :)
