Pete, just a quickie.
Right now thats over, here's the question: Ive got a Disco 300 tdi, 1996 P reg, ive blanked the egr but what else is available? I know i cant chip it cuz it has no electrical gubbins to chip or re-map, so is the only thing an intercooler upgrade?
What kind of increase are we talking? Forget the figures, is it mid range, or lower down grunt??? I tow a caravan and anything that will improve the tow-a-bility is an option.

Another question: is there such a word as tow-a-bility???????

Lo m8
regarding the 300TDI,s yes as you say there is no need for a chip on MOST of them, SOME auto,s still need chipping for the extra power. As they have EDC fitted

OK regarding more power yes the only answer is to fit a uprated intercooler, weather is be a DROPIN hi flow replacement
(which is good all round for most road and towing work)

OR a full size intercooler,
( i personay only think you need if you either have aircon or if you use seriousley hard off road)

Why i say for aircon is because i try not to fit bigger coolers infront of the aircon AND water rad, i like to keep the air folw going good threw the fins on the rads.
Whice ever you decide to go for to get the torque you WILL need some mechanical adjustments also.

Fitting the cooler on it own with no mods wont do whistle to the performance that you can feel.

If you are wanting it for QUOTE tow-a-bility
A drop in performance cooler and the mechanical mods will do you i think.
good gain in power comapred to the std 300 and hopefully a bit of a gain on fuel as well.
Hope this info helps m8 ,, if not post back or ring me and ill try my best honestly to advise.
regards pete

from jeremy fearns:
a large intercooler will increase bhp to 145, approx, and torque to 250lbs.
(200tdi).

very impressive for the money.

You could fit a different Turbo - I've heard that there are some good variable vane units out there now - not certain if any are purely mechanical bypass control but I think the brazilian 2.8 tdi utilises VVG without electronics. Or a turbo hybrid with a turbine & compressor set up to get more power at lower revs.

:D Or get a smaller caravan?:D

+ the mechanical adjustments that makes this all possibile.

The cooler its self wont do anything without the mods.

The adjustments as most of you know WILL make a difference even without a performance cooler,

The cooler only helps for air flow rate and inlet temp cooling which gives a bit more still.

The Drop-In hi flow cooler is only what most peole realy need, unless they want to go the holg hog i suppose.
http://www.bell-auto-services.co.uk/intercoolers.html there is a pic on here in uses the origanal tanks to the standard cooler, but is fitter with a good quality core, exact the same as Twisted perofrmance has on offer.

so if i have aircon (which i have) i would have to get the full size intercooler and not the ickle drop in one ??

@Richyborofanrich

if you have aircon i recomend a DROPIN hi flow cooler and NOT the full size one

this is because i dont like to stop the air flow to the aircon cooler and the water rad , by fitting yet another intercooler in front of them both.

if you fit the dropin cooler you can still adjust the bits that need done at the same time.

Although Allard now do a full size Hi-flow one that fits in same position as standard even with air-con. (between other 2 rads)

Hummm

I would like to see how this was done, without interfeering with the other rads air flow.

Does he have a picture on his site ??

Or is it the one that comes in 2 parts 1 for the std replacement and 1 for under the other rads ??

The one i make as you have seen is a direct replacement for the standard cooler.

Hi Pete,

Not seen a picture, he says that the intercooler is the same depth as the std TD5 intercooler end chambers, but that depth accross the entire width, so just lessens any gap between the air con rad in front and engine rad behind, not really sure how that would effect airflow through the rads, presumably not a lot, other than a reduction in cooling available to the engine rad.

Was just speaking to him about dump valves, and have ordered a boost pressure gauge so I can see if it is turbo lag i'm getting on racing starts :D

Im confused now lol

Is it a TD5 cooler you mean, or a 300tdi full size cooler that is simlar in size to a TD5 cooler ???
