was thinking of fitting electric fans to my v8 1993 disco as i have before and ditching the noisy viscous. One but i looked in behind the grill and there are two there already. Is this normal as i not sure they work only had this disco a couple of weeks ?
Two fans in front of teh rad is normal with air con. The air con fans will not keep a V8 cool in hot weather under heavy load at low speed - you will need decent main fans to do this.
that a bummer i was hopeing to use them. As there in the way now i may have to remove the cowling on the back and mount them there . thanks guy for the help.

Why are the a/c fans in the way ? and why do you think you need a electric cooling fan on a V8 ?.
If you are removing the viscous fan then install your new electric fan there to suck air through the rad.
Unfortunatly with electric fans they have to be set so the engine temp is a few degrees higher before the fan kicks-in not ideal with an alloy V8 thats not designed for that.

well because the viscous one is noisy and half the time not needed also they suck up extra power/fuel the v8 motor is sh#t on from the start So in the name of tesco every little helps. and i don t use the same thermo i put one in the top hose ford escort/metric thread one is best.Set to 88 degrees which is the correct temp for v8 its just that i normal put the fans in the front of the rad on a frame work. Mounting the fans behind the rad is a little more trick e. I am surprize at the size of the fans about 10in for the air con there not much smaller than the ones i use for the rad still thanks guys.
Why, if the fan was set to the normal engine temperature it would be running continually trying to cool the rad when normal temp was reached. Fans cut-in when the temperature is above the normal running temp, also fan motors is not designed for continuous running.
There is already a "thermostatic overide switch" existing in the form of a temperature sensor screwed in the thermostat housing on all D1's fitted with air con. The air-con fans will kick-in if there is the likely hood of the engine overheating because of the restricted air flow that is a resuilt of the extra air-con kit in front of the rad.
