Hi there,
Freelander 1 TD4 54 plated.
I have an issue with the fan speed/ strength. Though it is working fine but the effectiveness has significantly declined.
Any idea as what needs to be done?

Thanks

What's the problem... "effectiveness has significantly declined"? What does this mean, the amount of air moving around, where its going, its temperature etc?

I mean the cabin heater/ cooler fan. The effectiveness means the pressure of the fan has declined. I feel lot less air coming through the vents in all circulation.

Try changing yer pollen filter passengers side under your pull cubby ,2x hex screws and a good pull down should get it out ,also check yer inlet vents are not full of crap, leaves and things . . . .

Check the pollen filter. People overlook those, and it can look like a bird nest in there.

Haven't seen you over this side for a while, fancy a day out did we?

Could it be the fan resistor? Looks like the pollen filter is ok. Any idea as how to open the panel under the wipers (I guess it is called the inlet vents) to see any debris, leafs etc is stuck? I removed the wipers but can't remove the plastic screws with little holes.

A failed resistor only stops power at some speeds. Normally 1 or 2 but sometimes 3 as well. Speed 4 always works when the resistor has failed. I'd not bother taking the scuttle panel of as there's seldom any debris in there large enough to block the air flow.
You are best checking air flow using the face vents. Sometimes the direction control rods come off the direction flaps. This reduces the air flow through the heater.
Oh, you can't tell if the pollen filter is blocked by looking at it. The only way to tell is to replace it.

Thanks..My fan is for sure not giving me the power in the cabin it used to but it works with all speed position & makes the noise of increase or decrease in speed too. Just got the pollen filter changed during service & looks like the face vents are ok. Puzzled!

Yes it is. And the power/ speed of the fan is well felt & good when on cold mode but drastically decreased when on hot mode. Definitely less than earlier. Any help please.

This is a screen shot of heater diagram from the manual.
The flaps move to close or open various passages. The flaps are controlled by cables that can pop off the operating levers sometimes. It worth taking a look inside the centre console to check the operation of the levers.
If hot is affected, it could well be a disconnected or slipped cable.

Thanks again. Sure I will look into it. The heat itself is not an issue but the air flow pressure on hot mode is. Will look into it & see if there is anything that needs to be done.
