Hi
This has nothing to do with your question but I too have a 90 with a 200 tdi engine conversion. It's a 1987 and I bought it a couple of weeks ago. Thought I would say hello and maybe we could exchange notes on stuff if you like?

I tried to work out how to pm on this site but couldn't see how to do it.
I've sent you a PM. Any notes are more than welcome!!

Is that aimed at the OP? Quote function is useful! ;)

If you have landrover issues, post em up on the open forum, many on here have been running them and working on them for decades! :)
Forum search is also a useful tool for the many issues that have been discussed before.

PMs are now known as conversations, ther is a little envelope at the top right of the page, click on it!

When the Defender starts up yes it does turn the fan over until it has warmed up, then its just ticking over until needed. Visco's for me, no contest.

Consider it a 'Power On Self-test'- you drive off and you can hear the fan for a minute or so, which tells you that yes, the fan is working :D

Ref the fan running all the time, they certainly pull an awful lot of current.
I have two 200tdi land rovers, both with electrIc fans and I run them to test them as almost never need them.
Main benefit of elec fan on a 200 is much better access to the engine, in fact so much room you can sit on top of the rad and have your feet on top of the axle case.
4 years the 200 90 was my everyday car and I never needed the elec fan for road use not once ever.

I think you click on the guys name then it gives you a list of options.

Unless your towing a heavy trailer or using a Pto and revving the engine a lot I'm told you can run a Tdi with no fan most of the year apart from the hottest days.
