You can't, well you can, but not at the binnacle end, you disconnect it from the heater .... it controls the flap that lets the air in.
Fully up it's closed, half down it opens the flap in the heater, 3/4 its slow fan assist and all down it's full.

Thanks for the reply but you must be able to remove it at the binnacle / lever end otherwise how do you replace a snapped cable ?

It hasn’t snapped - I am removing part of the dash and want to remove the fan speed controller without pulling the cable through the bulkhead

Can anyone advise how to release this cable from the spigot on the fan speed control lever please?
How did you do it? And for me - how did you reconnect them as I can’t get the metal clips back on!
I am trying to change the wiper motor which has meant taking the heater fan controls out - faff!

I’ve not done it yet as still trying to get info on how to do it without damaging / breaking anything ! when I have found out how to do / done it I’ll post it up here for you 👍

Mate, the answer is "you can't ..."
You have to pull the cable through the bulkhead. It's really easy, difficulty out of 10 = less than 1.

You were asking about this in January.
It doesn't take 6 months of cogitation.
It's a 5 minute job, the hardest part is figuring out which cable is which and remembering to mark the cables at the heater end.

Pull your neck in ‘mate’ - I’ve got 1001 other things on the go so I’ll get round to this when I want & it’s got nothing to do with ‘a difficulty level’ !

If it’s nothing to do with difficulty level, why did you ask in the first place ?? Welcome to LZ by the way 😁😁

Although I do not want to get in between the handbags at dawn being incited by @GRATCH I am going to ask the same question challenging your "it can't". This was my belief as well until I looked into it and you can get replacement cables. I am happy with how to remove it from the heater box and pull it through the dash that is not difficult I completely agree with you.

The issue I have is the fan control has failed in the control unit that is fitted and the replacement (used) fan switch that I have in the box has a cable that has seized and because of this stretched the outer where it connects to the control. You can buy the control cable (link). I am hoping to fit a new cable to the used fan control and then swap the whole unit so I have a working fan again. The parts manual shows it as separate so I am assuming there is a way to actually disconnect it but I do not know what it is and without the new cable have not yet looked to try and work it out.
