Hi, not sure if this is what qualifies for a worn belt? I'm trying to get the old girl in shape for the winter, and if it need changing I'd rather do it now, than in 6ft of the white stuff! Any thoughts would be welcome, cheers!

if I wasn't half asleep I'd have attached the pic:doh:

Is there supposed to be a pic there?

If its the front belt then it only takes a minute to replace, wind the tensioner back with a 15mm to release tension, pop the belt off, replace. Job done!

Remover the fan cover the oval bit.slide belt over fan n get it in place on pulleys then move the tensioner nd fit belt slide tensioner back on n check it all in line.

15 mm spanner with bit or leaverage.

Check pulley bearings with no belt on.just wiggle em hy hand movement in n out n there gonna need changjng

It has been known for the white stuff to fall in abundance, occasionally.:D
Now I've just come in from the pi**ing rain, swearing at the blood belt! I have followed all your advice, but still, 5 min job turned into 2hrs!
I'm really confused. there is no way that belt will fit but it was sold to me as for a 300tdi. now i look on ebay, and i see some for sale that are for D1's (94-98) and some for 300tdi's (up too 96, then from 96). which damn one do I need!?! The missus car is a 95 D1, right on the change over. How can I tell which I need?

usually both will fit, later one should be a little longer for larger alt pulley, but normally tensioner can be pulled far enough back with 15mm socket and bar are you fitting right ,back of belt for smooth pulleys

Yeah spent time making sure I was getting it right. It was the right way round. Just spotted on ebay, the numbers on the belts refer to lenght. I thought they were just part numbers!:doh Had a 1595 on there originally, the new one was a 1580. guess I'll just get a bigger one. Are Dayco all right? The allmakes 1 i got seemed a bit naff, and it was a britpart that came off, and I don't like them at all.
