Hi all,

Search on forum/Google to no avail.

Yesterday, I experienced for the first time the fan belt slipping on a 25 minute to a birthday party, where the sqealing sounded like my Mother-in-law. This was on starting and any acceleration. No big deal, I can fix that.

On the way home same journey length, approx 5 minutes prior to getting home, there was a kind of whirring noise from what seemed to the the front under engine on the LHS. Same belt sqealing on acceleration/gear change, no change in durtion or frequency. No warning lights on the dash.

My query would be are in anyones experience are these related.

Details are:

Discovery 2
2.5 TDI 1996 - 2004
LHD

New brake pads inc discs, fitted allround 3 months ago.
New front wheel bearings fitted 4 months ago.

Hi, if you are sure that the belt is slipping replace it ASAP cos it's compulsory anyway then you'll see if the other noise is related or not, eventually check all the pulleys to turn free cos it's possible to be a dragging pulley which makes the belt slip but without taking some action it's just a guessing game

Changed my belt today, tensioner seemed good still, one thing I did to test belt was as it’s spinning round spray it with water see if it goes quiet, mind did so new belt, fitted a Gates branded one, £18 from local motor factors. All seems well upto now but if you can take fan off then do as it’s very restricted with it inplace.
