mot was going well untill the emissions test today the 4.6 failed the tester did try and get it through but it was to high i was told it needs a new cat so looks like im going to have and payout on a new system never seen the old beast smoke before but when it got to 2500rpm it smoked the garage out on the test hope the engine is ok.

I had a similar experience last year. Make sure you check the crank breathers on the rocker covers as this will give you both high emissions and blue smoke. Its also worth a spin on the diagnostics as this will pin point I'd you really have a problem with the cats.

put some cat cleaner in and put my foot to the metal on the bypass road and it smoked all the way and failed again on retest.

DO NOT go and buy a cat a mot tester can not tell you what has failed !!!it could be a lambor sensor get it on a diag first !!

But it's guess work ask someone for diagnostics near you to check lamba and mixture levels if all ok thens it's over to cats best to cheap way first not back to front...we had a car once done the cat no good done the lamba no good in the end mixture was too rich....

The cat ain't making it smoke something way in front of that is causing smoke. Try the engine. :D

ive changed the oil and filter what could make the engine smoke it ticks over at about 500rpm but when reved to 2500rpm it starts to smoke
