Hi All,

The standard D2 bottle jack has been giving me grief

I've topped up the oil level and bled as per the other threads on the topic but no joy

It will raise intermittently when I press down on it hard but otherwise it just pumps with no resistance or effect

Anyone had a similar experiance? Is there anything I can do or is it fubar?

I take it the screw is done up tight? if so try gorilla tight.
Have you tried pumping it up to full reach to make sure any air is out of the circuit?
Like most things they are getting pricey now.
 
Screw is up tight without going silly, last thing I want to do is make it more broken! I did take it all the way out to make sure nothing looked off and pour some oil down there and there were no obvious red flags

Shame they have got spendy as I would prefer to stick with a factory one if I can

Would a failed seal somewhere internally cause failure like this? I wouldnt mind stripping it down and sourcing new seals if its likely to work

Looks much like a normal bottle jack with a 'U' piece welded on top of the ram.
You could probably cut the top of yours & weld it onto a new one - for a lot less than LR want, even for a Britpart one!

Or just buy a small trolley jack. Use one with my Classic - which came with a LR screw type bottle jack - & it's a lot safer than any bottle jack.

How did you top the oil up?
 
I would rather get it back up and going if I can, I only really plan on using it on the side of the road if I have to and use a proper trolly jack to actually work on it as they are so much better like you say

I topped up the oil using the fill hole with the rubber bung on the side of the cyclinder - it probably took about 75ml so was a bit low but not disastrous
 
Quite a few bottle jack stripdowns on youtube, worth a look if you want to try it with yours.
