what are the engines like??

I have got a 200 tdi disco and that lump is great.

are the breaks any good???

is it worth me saving up and getting a 200 tdi 90???

Is there a reason you want a 90?

If you have a disco with a good engine, why the change?

I have found the disco great for green laneing but no good for going as some one put it down holes (quarry open days) i begrudge spending money on it to improve it further and i wont recoup the costs, were you can with a 90. plus after seeing what a 90 could do and go where i could not it showed me the light of a 90.

In that case get yourself a cheap 90 (with a knackered engine should bring the price down).

Whip the engine out of the disco, put it in the 90 and sell off the rest of the disco for parts. You should at least get you money back for the 90.

Thing is he want the disco as a straight swap

but unsure on the older tdi engines?

If the 90's sound, i.e. no rust in the usual places, and you're both up for it, do it.

Get someone to give the 90 a once over 1st though, there maybe someone on here near you that could help.

Even if it's just a 2nd opinion

thing is the 90 is in hull and i am in the midlands

sound a bit naive but what should i bee looking out for on the 90

Rust! Everything else is you can do on a budget

Have a good look around underneath, rear cross member's a good give away at what the rest is going to be like.

Have a good check of the chasis (take a hammer to it).

All the shock & spring mountings

Check the bulkhead from all angles if it has carpets lift them up and check the foot wells.
Take a torch too!

If you're having doubts don't do it, have a look around the forums or auto trader. See if you can do a part-ex.

I am no expert but I would advise that you ask someone that knows what they are looking for to go with you as I didn't and I have had to shell out a lot for not doing it properly.

ang on a minute folks. my mates got an F plate with a 200tdi fitted as standard. so maybe its not the TD as mentioned previously. it to has a salisbury rear axle with disks.

I didn't think the 200tdi was fitted until the H reg about 1990. I have a G reg 110 and it had a TD till it died

Wish i could find a good 200tdi 90 within my budget!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm in Hull next weekend and Grunt lives just outside of Hull If you want someone to give it a look over.

How much do you think your disco is worth (have a look on Ebay and Autotrader) and compare it to what similar 90's are fetching.
